Chelsea Hughes
Chelsea Hughes
Who I am:
My name is Chelsea Hughes and I am a junior at Old Dominion University. I just transferred to ODU from Christopher Newport University this spring. CNU never really felt like "home" to me and I knew a change would be in my best interest.
I am from Zuni, Virginia. I have one younger sister who is currently a senior in high school and recently committed to play softball at Bridgewater College in the fall! I am very close to my family and so lucky to have such a strong support system.
I have always known I wanted to work with children, but debated between teaching and working in pediatrics in the medical field throughout high school. During my junior and senior years of high school, I took an Early Childhood Education class, earning my certification in Early Childhood Education, and this is when I knew I wanted to become a teacher. I absolutely love working with children and watching them grow in a classroom.
What I know:
I know that giving students individual attention is important.
I know that working with children can be very rewarding.
I know that communication with parents is very important.
I know how to integrate technology into a classroom.
I know relationships matter in the classroom.
I know that listening to every students concerns is important.
What I need to learn:
I need to learn to be more patient. Patience is very important when working with children.
I need to learn to step out of my comfort zone more.
I need to learn how to manage my time better.
I need to learn more about different cultures to understand all of my students to the best of my ability.
I need to learn how to fit my teaching styles to the learning styles of all of my students.
The teacher I will become:
I will become the teacher that works hard everyday to make learning fun.
I will become the teacher who makes my classroom a safe space for my students.
I will become the teacher that influences my students to always strive to be their best.
I will become the teacher who is always supportive of my students.
I will become the teacher who is open-minded and willing to take the advice of other teachers.
I will become the teacher who is devoted to each and every student in and out of the classroom.
