My name is Amy Wallace. When we were given this assignment I was stuck initially trying to figure out what I would put in this section. Some people spend their whole lives trying to figure out who they are. Truthfully, most never figure it out. My life can be split into two worlds. One is a a world based on books. I've wandered down Swann's Way, taken a sad train ride with Anna Karenina, attended Enfield Tennis Academy with Hal Incandenza, and went on marvelous adventures with Don Quixote and his loyal squire Sancho Panza. It is an enriching world, however my second one is far more remarkable. My second world contains characters who are a little less peculiar, but are real, made of flesh and bone. They are full of love and are my ultimate inspiration for everything. My father is a kind, fair, and extremely generous person. He taught me what it meant to be a good friend and a genuinely nice person. He instilled in me a love for giving. But my ultimate inspiration comes from my mother. She never gave me any reason to doubt that I couldn't be whoever I wanted to be. She filled the house with books, movies, music, and love. She gave me role models like Jane Austen, Dorothy Parker, Sylvia Plath, and Hunter S. Thompson. Some may be not the best for a child to idolize but all went into shaping the person I am today. At 21 years old I can say that who I am is a kind person who loves to read, has excellent taste in movies and music, a realistic outlook on life, and, above all, has a supreme love for knowledge. All of these aspects of my life drove me to choose teaching as my profession.
I know that as teachers it is our duty to make every child feel included in the classroom.
It is up to us to make sure the students are learning and comprehending the things we teach to them.
I know that I want to be a teacher not only because I love learning, but because I want to be able to instill that love for learning in other kids and make school fun!
What I Have to Learn
I need to learn not to doubt myself so much. I spend a lot of time second guessing myself and when I become a teacher I need to be confident in myself and my decisions.
I need to learn how to make lesson plans that will work or all different types of learners and specific ways I can help students that have fallen behind.
I need to learn what grades I want to teach specifically. I am an elementary education major and currently I am not sure which grade I want to teach specifically.
I hope to become a teacher that students can look up to. I want to be a teacher who instills a love for learning in her students. I want to be a teacher that values the opinions of her students. Most of all, I want to create a classroom environment where kids can feel safe to ask questions and where they know that they will not be judged if they do no know an answer. I want my students to have fun in class while also learning. I will become a teacher who is a role model for her students.
