Who I am
I was born in Virginia Beach and have lived here all my life. I am currently on the ODU Mens Club Lacrosse team. I have played lacrosse for around 14 years since i was 7 years old. I am also super obsessed with being outdoors in the woods or i also love to Rock climb in my free time. I also love to go long boarding around my neighborhood or around the ODU Campus all the time. My favorite books series would definitely have to be the Percy Jackson series and The Lord Of The Rings books. I'm a huge fan of adventure and fantasy books. I love to travel whether its on a long carride to another state or on a long flight to Europe.
One thing I have learned since i was a kid was to stand up for yourself and also be able to take the hard punches that life gives you. Nothing worth having in life is obtained easily and hard work is the key to obtaining success.
My major for Old Dominion is History and I want to be a high school history teacher after I graduate. My family and i have always had a huge interest in learning about American and European history. I developed a great interest for teaching in high school by having a great set of teachers, especially my history teachers. I am also very interested in enlisting in the military as well. I would most likely be interested in joining the Marine Corps. I have a large military background in my family with many uncles and grandfathers and aunts serving in many branches of service.
What I know
I am a very experienced at time management and group work. I am also very skilled at leadership and taking charge in certain situations.
I can teach history to others effectively to a certain degree but still have a lot to learn in order to become a great teacher
What i need to learn
How to develop better teaching skills and classroom management
How to become a better teacher for virtual classes
How to be an effective teacher so that future students not only memorize the class materials but also understand why it is important for people to know.
What kind of teacher i will become
I believe that the purpose of school is not only to provide young people will a good education but also to prepare them for future jobs and potential career paths. This is why I beleive teachers should make their classes and assigned materials as engaging as possible. I also believe that students should maximize their chances of finding a good job by finding what jobs interest them the most and also can provide a steady income so that they can provide for themselves and maybe their future families.
As a teacher i will try my best to engage and enteratain my students so that they will look forward to coming to my classes. I will also do my best to give them the education that they are entitled to in the best ways possible. I will value any of my students opinions and any diagreements that they might have while also showing to them that I am in charge of them without being overbearing or rude. I will try and be the teacher that will go beyond what is required of me to be a teacher and put in as much effort as possible into my classroom and my students education.

Hi Thomas! I totally agree with becoming a teacher that not only teaches for information to be memorized, but applied! Especially with a subject like history - it is important for students to feel that the information is relevant to how they live and make choices. Nice page! -Amber Pierce
Hi Thomas! I think your page is very clean and very organized! Also, thank you for wanting to join the military and your family for doing so. My dad is retired Navy so thank you and your family. I am glad you were inspired by some of your teachers to become a teacher; I had the same experience with a trigonometry teacher. I can tell they really inspired you and I think you will do great things as a history teacher. The only suggestion I would make is make sure your "I" is capitalized, in some areas it was not. Otherwise, GREAT JOB!- Jada Hastings
