Who am I?
Hi! I am Brooke Hamilton. I am 30 years old and was born in Galveston Texas. I am a senior at ODU and majoring in elementary education. I graduated high school in the small town of Bay City, Texas in 2008. I have always wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately, I didn't quite know how to peruse that dream because I had no family that went to college, so I honestly didn’t even know where to start or how I was going to pay for it. I ended up joining the Navy and served for 5 years. Thanks to the Navy, I was able to find myself, grow as a person, met my husband and started a family. I currently have two children. My oldest, Landon, is 10 and my youngest, Dylan, is 3.
My 10 year old, Landon.
My 3 year old, Dylan.
One of the many things I need to learn is how to become an organized teacher. I have seen plenty of teachers and classrooms that are completely unorganized, which tends to cause chaos in the classroom. Have a place for everything, so students know what to expect when they come to class each day. Another thing I need to learn is how to adapt to the individual learning needs of a child. I know that not every child learns the same way, so as a future teacher, I need to learn my student's needs and find a way to incorporate that into teaching students.
What kind of teacher I want to be
I hope that I become the teacher that students not only get excited to see, but know that they get excited to come to my classroom to learn too. I want to be able to create a positive learning environment for every student so that if they are not fully understanding of what is going on in the lesson, that they aren’t afraid to ask for help. I want to help build confidence within students, so that they know they can strive to be what they want to be or do what they want to do. I want to continue to learn, so that I am the best teacher than I can be. I want to make sure I show real life examples in my teaching, so that students understand the importance of the things they are learning and they know it is important in the real world and that people use what their learning in many different ways.

Hey Brooke. Guess what; I also have a Landon, he is 11 almost 12. My April baby. I am 33 years old, and got a rather late start, as far as my education is concerned. The way I see it, better late than never. Not to mention we are setting great examples for our children. It looks like you have the skills to make for a great teacher. Take care, sure we will chat again.
I can relate to you! No one in my family had gone to college either. And being the oldest child I did not have anyone to point me in the direction of what I needed to be doing. I graduated in 2003. So I'm a little late to the game of getting the career I've always wanted started. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, just never knew how to go about doing it. I have 2 sons as well. Dominic who is 5 and Sebastian who turns 2 next month! I always said my biggest regret was not going to college and pursuing my dream. Glad we can now say that we are making it happen! Good luck! -Rene Fiore
