I am Savannah Reed!
I am a college student at Old Dominion University, a daughter, an educator, an aunt, a friend, a helper, and much more. I am currently a second year student at ODU, before coming here I was previously a student at Longwood University. I am a resident of Chesapeake, Virginia. As well as a substitute teacher for Chesapeake Public Schools. I also am an educator in other ways! I teach horse back riding lessons to children and adults at Grubb Grove Horse Farm. I am someone who loves to work with others and I enjoy feeling a sense of accomplishment when helping others develop skills they did not previously posses.
Truth be told, I tend to think I know more than I actually do!
I know that our education system could use some changes. I believe that all students should have the opportunity to an education as well as a school that cares about our student's best interest. I know each student has different learning methods, and as teachers it is our job to meet our students' needs.
As a teacher, I know how to connect with my students. I also know how to keep a classroom exciting, personal, and learning effective! These are also the skills I would like to continue growing as I am a student myself.
One thing that I have learned to be incredibly effective, specifically during this time of the pandemic, is using online learning resources to assist you. Such as creating a google classroom to have links attached for learning sites as well as any specific content that could be important in the classroom at the time.
I am the first one to admit that I still have plenty to learn!
I find that I have a difficult time effectively communicating with my classes as to why we do things. Sometimes we just do things in a classroom because we are told that this is the way things are. I enjoy have open conversations and communications with my students. I believe they deserve a right to know the reason behind our madness as teachers!
One day I hope to become the teacher that I loved in school. The teacher that allows children to be excited about learning. One that values all of my students the same and will help them to realize their potential. I want for my students to feel safe, heard, brilliant, strong and independent in my classroom. I hope to be a teacher that changes a life.
Hi Savannah, I also sometimes know more than I think I do. I loved when my teachers were excited about teaching and that would always make me more excited to learn from them. Also your Google Slide show is not showing; you need to share it with everyone . - Shakia Mosley
HI Savannah I love your page and I think that it is very cool you teach horse back riding to kids! - Reina Remias
Hi Savannah! I really enjoyed reading your page and learning more about you. I loved reading more about who you are as a teacher and I think you will be an amazing educator! I completely understand the idea of us always needing to learn and I could not agree more and I think you highlighted some great stuff in that section. Also, like Shakia mentions above, the Google Slides is not showing correctly. Great job though! - Jada Hastings
Hi Savannah ! I love how you teach horse back riding to all sort of ages. I can kind of relate by coaching kids in gymnastics/cheerleading! I also love how you want your students to feel brilliant and proud of themselves when they are learning. I agree that students should feel like they are capable of doing anything they put their mind too! - Hannah Miller
Hi Savannah! I love that you are currently a substitute teacher! I bet that really helps in getting prepared for this line of work. How did you get started in that?
