Who Am I?
Hey! My name is Carolyn Chin and I'm a Junior at Old Dominion University and my major is Elementary Education K-5, but I would personally love to teach second grade! I transferred from Tidewater Community College with an Associates degree in Social Science. I've done previous student teaching while in high school and in college as well! I was personally influenced to pursue teaching by my own teachers growing up! They were true inspirations in my life and made me realize how important teachers are for every student's life and their growth.
A little about me!
I am a nerd. I like anime, video games, pop culture, movies, cosplaying. You name it, I've probably dabbled in it.
I love cooking and baking! I make good chocolate chip cookies!
I work at Best Buy, and working during the pandemic is a struggle!
I love travelling! I have actually not travelled much myself, but I enjoy it! I have lived in China before as well!
I have a pet cat, her name is Kitty. She is adorable!
What I Know...
I know that the world we live in is currently crazy. This world is still experiencing difficulty in inclusion of diversity and individual students who are just expressing their true self. I would love to be able to teach my students about inclusion no matter what situation, lifestyle, or even the color of their own skin may be. Each child is important and I'd love to help them all grow and feel important in their educational career. I also believe that education doesn't always have to feel boring and 'to the book', but engaging and enticing. I have the ability to take certain subjects and skills into a lesson that let's the youth feel involved and learn in different ways.
What I Need To Know...
I need to learn what it takes to be a proper teacher. Even though I strive to be inclusive and immersive as a teacher, I have to figure out how to do that in the classroom setting. I need to learn how to have patience so I don't lose control of my students and myself. I will learn from my previous mistakes in the classroom to have better experiences and lessons. I need to learn to get out of my comfort zone and accept different teaching strategies to help all my students feel included in the classroom.
The Teacher I Will Become...
I hope to become a teacher that students will feel safe and comfortable with. I strive to be inspirational with my educational endeavor and inclusive for my student's lives. I believe school is supposed to be a safe place where students are able to figure out who they are and what they want to do for their futures without doubts. They should learn critical thinking skills and be able to speak openly about their passions and beliefs while understanding the consequences of their actions as well. Academics and morality are built within schools from the teachers, but also their peers. I hope that I will be able to teach them their proper academics, but also self love and pride for themselves. I want to be inclusive, while also a role model for my future students.
I used Google Slides to make each individual slide(frame) and then used talltweets.com to turn it into a GIF! :)
