The Lockwood High School cross country team made it to the state cross country meet. The meet was Saturday, October 23, in Missoula. The group proceeded to the state by making qualifying times in all their other meets before heading to state.
The team has improved compared to their first meet in Hardin and their last meet in Missoula, and each runner has individually enhanced. Tailey Harris was the first-ever lady lion XC runner to cross the finish line at her first meet. Tailey Harris and Merka Ball were the first Lady Lions to qualify at state. All the boys ran state qualifying times at their first meet. In Red Lodge, Jaxson Horn, Kenny Specht, and Reid Walks Over Ice had big personal bests. Kenny and Jaxson broke the sub-23 minute milestone. Izayah ran a sub-22 minute and barely missed his personal record. In Shepherd, Harris received a ribbon for taking 4th place overall as an individual for varsity girls. The boy's varsity team took 4th place overall. Seth Alhgren ran 22:01, Kenny 19:28 (PR), Brady ran 23:55.
Earlier this year, Lockwood hosted their first high school XC meet. All of the visiting schools said that the course was the most complicated, most challenging course of all. At the end of the day, 700 runners were able to finish this course. All in all, Lockwood has had an excellent season. They were able to go to every meet and compete against other teams, and were able to go to state and qualify and do their best.
