It was a cold and rainy Tuesday night when the Lockwood softball team faced off against Hardin. Although the Lions fought hard, they eventually fell to the Bulldogs 5-1.
LHS head coach Tyler Herbert put together a formidable starting lineup, with Alyssa Jones on the mound and Emma Painter behind the plate, Bailey Ruff (first), Kiara Waters (second), Karysn Cookman (shortstop) and Mayson James (third) holding down the infield, and Hailey Unrein (right), Kinley Crane (center) and Taysha Little Light (left) in the outfield.
The highlight for the Lions came in the seventh inning when Alyssa Jones got on base with a double. Looking to maximize speed, coach Herbert called on Tristan Gentry to pinch run for Jones. Kinley Crane then hit a grounder to the second baseman, and, although Crane was thrown out at first, her hit allowed Gentry to score Lockwood’s only run and earned Crane an RBI.
Despite their loss, the Lady Lion’s hopes remained high. “It was actually better than most of our games,” said Kinley Crane. “Because we have been practicing our defense alot and we were talking more.”
