Free Popcorn, lemonade, and great music were all a part of Lockwood High School's first-ever tailgate party. The event took place on September the 4th, which happened to land on a Saturday, right before the first home football game of the season. It started at 1:30 pm and went on until the game kicked off at 3 pm. The event was sponsored by ExxonMobil, and they had a few signs up at the tailgate showing this. They handed out red towels that had the Lockwood Lion and the KGHL logo on them, however, they only had a limited number so you had to get there before they ran out. Before the event really began, Lockwood's cheer team lined up for a photo with the KGHL team. The cheer also at one point was dancing to the music in the street trying to not only practice their dances but also to try and get the incoming crowd rallied up. The crowd at the game was quite large compared to last year's games. That might be because of COVID which limited the number of people we could have, or it might just be that it's the first home game. We will have to wait and see for the next game to find out which is true. During the first few minutes of the game, the crowd rallied up with the towels that were provided. Mike Erickson, Lockwood's athletic director, said when asked about the game, "This year we had roughly 500 people attend the game which was a huge event for us. It was an amazing event that started our season off with great community and student body support." The large crowd was in for an amazing first home game, with the Lions winning 34 to 8.
