FFA finally got a chance to attend State CDE Days which took place in Miles City, on March 21 and 22. They also got a chance to then go to the State Convention from March 30th to April 2nd. What is FFA? Well, the official name is the National FFA Organization, and “FFA” stands for Future Farmers of America. The Organization helps grow member leadership, character growth, and career success through agricultural education.
FFA is an intracurricular organization for people who want to go into an agricultural career and grow their leadership skills, it's only one of the three components of the agricultural education program. Lockwood competed in Career Development Events (CDEs) like Ag Sale, Farm Agribusiness Management, Floriculture, Vet Science, Poultry Science, Horse Judging, and Livestock Judging. They placed 3rd and 5th for Districts, the 3rd was in Farm Agribusiness management, and the 5th was in Ag Sales.
Over the past few months, the group has been competing in District, which has been hosted by Shepherd but Lockwood will be the next to the host. Lindsey Harper the advertiser for FFA answered, “We get chartered at State March 31, 2022, and we will be the 97th chapter in the state of Montana. We will celebrate our accomplishments at our banquet in May.” When asked about the season.
To be a part of the FFA you have taken one semester of an Agriculture class to be an active member. Once a member you have to attend meetings on the first Thursday of every month which will take place in the AgEd room during lunches. For Next year's plans, I went to Mrs. Harper for help and she said, “Next year we have an officer retreat, District Leadership School hosted in Lockwood in September, NILE sales, horse judging, and livestock judging in October, start our own floral business, John Deere Ag Expo overnight trip in November, Districts hosted in Lockwood December and February, fundraising, FFA Week in February, Greenhouse sales” To be apart the team is easy all she asks for is to be in an AgEd Class and help out with the fundraising when you can.
