Lockwood Cheerleaders’ 3rd season came to an end on Friday the 25th when the girls’ basketball team lost out in the Eastern A Divisional Basketball Tournament. Even though there aren’t any seniors on the team, many of the girls were upset to see the season end. The girls had a long week starting on Wednesday when they performed for the two games. The next day they had three games with only about a 30-minute break between them. They only had one game on the final day, but they worked hard to encourage the team playing.
Over the course of the 3-day tournament, the cheerleaders performed their halftime show six times. It included a dance they learned just a week before. In the middle of the dance, they threw up two overhead splits that changed to an elevator then came down. The other stunt between the splits was an eagle, which is where the base is lifting the flier by the armpit while they split behind their head. Gwyn Cusak and Lily Conklin were the ones doing it, and once the eagle came down, they did a small handshake and split on the floor.
While all the girls were tired and sore from all the cheering, they truly enjoyed spending time together and doing what they love. The team is sad that the season is over but is happy to start back up in just a few months for tryouts for next year.
