Led by Kristy Flesch, Lockwood High hosted a career fair on April 22nd. All students were able to attend the event during their English classes. The fair was in the gym, and some things were just outside. The booths that were inside ranged from College all the way to the US Military. The Colleges that were there included MSU-B, City College, Rocky, Miles City Community College, and the University of Montana. The City College also brought a VR Set that students then got a chance to simulator paint a car. There was also a Trio where tutoring and other help is provided to first-generation college students and students from a military family. Another amazing program there was Reach Higher Montana, which helps students get a successful future.
Each stop had a speaker ready to tell you all about what life at their college could be like for you. Billings Clinic represented what the medical field would be like and had sign-ups to be able to join the team at Billings Clinic as a Nurse Assistant. The Local Lockwood Dental was representing dentistry and had many cool things for the student interested in being a dentist. If anyone was interested in going into any type of Zoology or other jobs with the zoo, some people from Zoo Montana were there. The ones wanting to go into something with Agriculture Industry Jobs there were the NILE and ORIgen there to talk to. The Stillwater Mine represented the many different mining careers the students could possibly pursue.
Construction and building had an excellent turnout, including True North Steel, Air Control-HVAC/Plumbing, Dick Anderson Construction, and EBC Trusses. Similarly, the impressive turnout for the Equipment Companies included RDO Equipment, Tractor and Equipment Co, and Modern Machinery. They also brought equipment, including a Motor Grader, which was outside. Montana Raillink had information on careers with the railroad. Collaborative Design was their information about architect career, and the cool thing is that they were those who designed out of high school.
A few places were looking for summer help that students could sign up for, including Billings Gymnastic, Yellowstone County Weed District, and the YMCA. Crystal’s House Daycare gave students information about careers in Early Childhood. Also, she was giving kids the chance to get a part-time job at a local daycare. A program that helps communities worldwide focus on solutions to have a better life, known as the United Way, had a booth where they were ready to talk more about it. Even a few parents that started their own company got to join in, such as Justine Waggener with Sign Gyspy and Keith Ahlgren from Green Magic Landscaping.
A Local Hair Stylist from Style N 406 was there, showing different techniques for some highlights. For people interested in Photography, Amber Reinhardt was there with the information and a challenge of guessing how many jelly beans were in the jar, with the winner getting cheaper senior photos. Stockman Bank had details on careers and how to manage accounts. Alpine Air was there for the Aviation career opportunities. A few people were there to help students understand jobs in Emergency and Fire; those people were from AMR, Lockwood Fire, and BTM Wildlife. Our very own Deputy Heflin represented the Sheriff’s department and was ready to answer almost any questions you asked about it. Finally, all branches of the military were in attendance, including our new ROTC program.
