Lindsey Harper is a science teacher who teaches plant and animal science for Lockwood. She also is in charge of the FFA. The classes are doing different things simultaneously because each of her classes is at different levels. Some of their classes are hanging basket plants, herb gardens, germinating seeds, and making flower arrangements that the students could then give to their parents and the teachers for teacher appreciation. The seeds they have been using were donated by Lockwood AC hardware at the beginning of the year. The students also have a bucket in Mrs. Koss's class from foodscapes from her food class. The bucket is then put in a composter which the student turns to be able to get the nutrient for their soil. The classroom doesn't have any water right now, so the students have to get water from the bathroom to water their plants. Next spring, Harper is hoping to get a greenhouse for the school so that the student can expect to set up sprayers in there that will be on timers to get the plant watered more and when needed. The greenhouse is also planned to have a whole area just for the soil so that the student can use it for their plants.
The first baby turkey to hatch was named Mario Big Ounce.
A work in progress: basket plants, herb gardens, germinating seeds, and flower arrangements.
The plant science class and the animal science class go on many field trips learning different things about their choice of science. Animal science teaches about the other types of animals and how they work. One of her high school classes got to look at and touch a deer's heart and lung. One of the students even blows the lung up to see how it fully works. The Animal Science classes also donated Turkey eggs to see how the hatching posses works and how to do it correctly. An ex-Lockwood Board Member presented the eggs, Kat Pfan. She has kids in Harper's middle school classes. Harper is hoping to have animals that stay at the school, but for now, the eggs will be going back to Kat once they hatch, but students got to have fun seeing them hatch and naming them fun names.
