On March 3-6, the best hockey teams in the state gathered at the Centennial Ice Arena in Billings for the Treasure State League Varsity High School State Tournament. The event is put on by the Montana Amateur Hockey Association and showcases the talents of teams from across the state, including teams from Bozeman, Great Falls, Flathead, Missoula, Helena, Havre and Billings.
Although it isn’t an official school sport, five current Lockwood High students play for the Billings Bulls. Austin Bonebright, Clint Isakson, Brady Kittelmann and Ian Laib play on the varsity team, while Garett Kelly is on the JV squad.
When all was said and done, the team from Bozeman occupied the first place spot, while Billings finished in fourth. When asked about his thoughts on the team’s performance, LHS sophomore Brady Kittelmann said, “our season went good but we definitely should’ve done better at state.”
The season may not have ended the way they had hoped, but the Bulls can take pride in their accomplishments this year. And with a collection of feisty young Lions on the roster, next year looks promising.
