< Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone >

I have always been interested in watching different genres of movies, such as horror, adventure, sometimes even romance. But my favourite movie of all time has to be “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. It was the movie I first watched out of the Harry Potter series and ever since then, it has been my favourite.

Harry Potter is no doubt the name of the main character. Almost everyone has heard about Harry Potter and is much familiar with the school, Hogwarts. What makes this movie so unique is the whole concept, from how each character develops throughout their journey together to all the different parts of England back in the 1990s, where the story takes place, but most importantly the story itself. The movie makes magic feel as if it is real - scenes like the first lesson when Harry and his classmates learnt how to ride magical flying brooms and Professor Snape’s potion lessons, everything is really fun to watch. I envy those classes a lot. Hopefully, I could get to experience them one day, perhaps at a Harry Potter theme park.

The movie shows how Harry was disliked by the Dursley family who adopted Harry after his parents had passed away, especially Mrs Dursley, who believed that it was magic that led to their death and blamed it on Harry. The fact that Harry got used to being treated like this made me annoyed. He was still a child who did not deserve to be treated this way. When Hagrid brought Harry to Hogwarts, he was well known and admired for being the boy who survived Voldermort’s curse. There he wouldn’t be judged for using magic.

Other than the magic going on, what makes it my favourite movie is how comfortable life at Hogwarts is. Every student comes from different places, each born to different families, all come together to learn magic. Nowadays, in reality, people are judged based on their different beliefs, different family backgrounds or the way they act and look. If only the world of Harry Potter existed, that would be splendid.

Overall the whole story plot, character development as well as the different parts of England back in the 1990s, where the story takes place, are what excite me the most. The whole Harry Potter series is complete and although “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” was only the first movie of the series, to this day it remains my favourite movie.
