Dignity at Danestone

Meet our new mascot, 'Dignity Dog!'

It's official! We have a new mascot at Danestone to join alongside 'Rainbow Rights!' 'Dignity Dog' will represent dignity at Danestone, and will be there to help us learn what respecting people's dignity looks like, feels like and sounds like.

Here's 'Dignity Dog's' creator to tell us what he thinks Dignity means:

“I think it means that we should treat everyone the way we want to be treated. It means sharing love. Knowing that we are all equal. Believing in ourselves and encouraging others.”

A huge congratulations also to the 9 fantastic runner's up and their entries pictured here. The standard was very high and each entry received many votes.

Dignity at Danestone

P5/6 designed posters showing what dignity looks like, sounds like and feels like at Danestone. Here are two excellent examples by Scarlet, Amber and Dhriti.

P5/6 have learned that dignity is linked to equality, respect, participation and protection.

We shared our ideas on Google Jamboards as to how our dignity is respected at Danestone.

'Dignometers!'

During Primary 4 and Primary 4/5's 'Dignity day' they made these wonderful 'dignometers'! A 'dignometer' is a tool that shows others when we feel our dignity is being respected and when we feel it is not.

After discussing the fact that dignity is something we all have, and that it is something that we can all give each other, we shared what influences our sense of dignity, positively and negatively.

See below for some of the ways the children felt that there dignity was being respected and the ways where they felt their dignity was least respected.

We feel our dignity is being respected when...

  • We are being included.

  • When we are being listened to.

  • When we are learning.

  • Cared for and loved.

  • Supported.

  • Equal.

We don't feel our dignity is being respected when...

  • Bullied

  • Left out/excluded.

  • Ignored.

  • Shouted at.

  • Hurt.

Primary 7 dignity day

During Primary 7's dignity day we discussed the importance of valuing our individuality. We shared things about ourselves that we are proud of.

Then, we read the poem 'Mine' by Kuli Kohli. We used this poem as inspiration for creating our 'finger print art' to celebrate our identities and what we value most.
