P7 and P2/3D Update September 2021
We have been sharing ideas about how to help everyone learn about different languages. We are working with the Primary 7's to share French challenges and games for everyone to do.
By Zach and Jake
This year we are working towards earning our Silver Scottish Languages Employability Award. We have been learning phrases in French and creating our own puzzles. We have also researched jobs in France and compared them to jobs in Scotland.
We are also beginning to plan a languages café so pupils can use their French and Mandarin vocabulary.

Scottish Languages Employability Bronze Award
September 2021
Pupils were absolutely delighted this week to have received their Bronze Scottish Languages Employability Award. This award is accredited by SCILT -Scotland's National Centre for Languages. This award helps schools and businesses develop partnerships through languages in order to develop pupils learning about the world of work and the value of language skills.
The feedback from SCILT about the project was incredible and our pupils were ecstatic to hear the news.
“This was an outstanding submission by Danestone Primary 5/6 Languages Life and Ethos Group. The whole verification team was enormously impressed by the range and quality of work which went in to this project, and by the outcomes of it. The school has developed a strong partnership with Subsea 7, and we loved the reciprocal nature of this, with both sides learning from each other. It is indeed a true partnership.
There are so many elements of this project which different team members highlighted as examples of excellent practice. These include the clear planning and organisation, excellent supporting evidence, inclusion of technology via Google sites, Jamboard etc, excellent examples of ‘sharing the learning’ with other classes, the pupil-led feel to the project, the celebration of different languages, the inclusion of the Diversity group, and so much more.
We felt that this was an exemplary project and one which is a very worthy recipient of the Bronze award. We are excited to hear that the school plans to continue and to develop their partnership and integration of languages, and we look forward very much to seeing more of the work that will be produced!”
Congratulations and well done to the Languages Life and Ethos group for their incredible teamwork, enthusiasm and ideas that they brought to this project to achieve this award! A huge thank you to Subsea 7 for supporting us throughout the year and we look forward to developing this partnership further.

Languages Google Site
June 2021
To showcase how we learn languages at Danestone we decided to create a Google Site. On our site we have shared what, why and how we learn languages. Working in groups we each developed our own section for the site. We thought about what information we wanted to share and what pictures to include. We really enjoyed creating the site and learnt lots of new skills for life long learning and work.
We hope you enjoy our site!

Scottish Languages Employability Award Google Site
May 2021
Primary 5/6 are creating a Google Site about languages in our school as we work towards achieving The Scottish Languages Employability Award. Pupils were asked to answer three questions- what languages do we learn in school, how do we learn languages and why might they be useful in our future careers? To achieve the Award we have linked with Chris Roberts who works at Subsea 7. Pupils will share the site with him and Chris will give us a virtual tour around Subsea 7 and share how he and his colleagues use languages in the work place.

Our Skills and Abilities
18th December 2020
Today we worked in pairs to create our own Google Slides sharing our own skills and attributes. Skills means something that you can do and you can develop. An example of this would be problem solving, learning how to use technology or learning a new language. Attribute means a personal characteristic, for example positive or friendly.
We thought about what skills and attributes would be important to share about ourselves and how they linked to our dream jobs.

What are skills and attributes 30th November 2020
Today we were discussing what skills you needed for different jobs. We shared what our dream jobs were and what skills we thought we would need. We thought that we would need to use languages for lots of different jobs. For example there are lots of companies that trade with each other across the world and business people need to travel to other countries.

Diversity Group
Today we had our second Google Meet with Mrs Sinclair. We asked the school how many languages they speak. At Danestone we speak 10 different languages at home! For our next BIG Question we want to ask everyone is, how do we get rid of hate speech?

Let's get started! 18th November 2020
Our first Languages Life and Ethos group got off to a great start. This year we are going to be working towards the ‘Scottish Languages Employability Award’. Today we wrote letters to local businesses to ask if they would like to link with us. We would like to find out how they use languages at work and what skills they think are important.
Some of us meet with Mrs Sinclair on a Google Meet. Mrs Sinclair’s group is the Diversity group. This means that everyone is unique! The group set a Big Question for all the classes to answer. Charlie made a video asking the question- How do you say hello at home? We are looking forward to reading all the different ways we say hello at Danestone.
