27.06.22 Our Healthy World

Today we practiced using google slides and made a google slide to share our learning on our topic. We worked in pairs to create and design our slide.

17.06.22 Avocado Baby

This week we have been listening to the story Avocado Baby about the baby who becomes super strong after eating Avocados. Today we made our own story maps for the story. We drew pictures that help us to explain what is happening at each point in the story.

Literacy

This term we have been learning about fiction and non-fiction. We have been investigating what types of information you find in each book. We made our own non-fiction books about the human body. We included a contents page and some fun facts.

15.06.22 Our Healthy World

On Monday we explored our senses and went on a nature senses walk in the Willow Den, we saw and heard lots of things. On Wednesday we discussed how our brain is helping us to touch, feel, smell, see and hear. We looked at optical illusions and how they trick our brain

26.05.22 Paper Airplane Competition

Today for World Paper Airplane day we got to make our own airplanes and fly them outside to see how far they could go. We had so much fun designing ours. Well done P2/3.

Our Healthy World 23.5.22

This term we are learning all about our body and our skeleton. Today we investigated our skin. To recap our learning so far we made a list of all the facts we could remember.

13.05.22 Sports Day

We had so much fun at Sports Day this year. We enjoyed getting to take part in field and track events in the morning and taking part in the potted Sports with our Castles in the afternoon. We even got an ice lolly to end the day! Well done P2/3

Garden Project

This term we have started our garden project. We have been learning why it is important to protect our plants. We have planted lots of seeds and plants and are excited to watch them grow.

Our Planet Beyond

Last term our context was Our Planet Beyond. We learnt all about the sun, the earth and the moon. We created a power point to share what we learnt. In groups we created our own slides to share some facts.

World of Work Week

We had lots of fun this week asking questions and learning about different jobs. We learnt all about being an artist, a librarian, a policewoman and even an engineer. At the end of the week we shared what job we would like to do when we were older and shared our reasoning too. We found that lots of us had changed what we wanted to be after meeting everyone at World of Work Week.

This week we have been focusing on what it means to be a good friend and how this links to our school values. We found that we would like friends who are kind, helpful, respectful and brave.

We listened to the story on Sudden hill at reflected on how the boys felt at different points.

We then worked in groups and learnt how to be good friends we used cardboard boxes to make our own cars like the boys did. We then took them outside for some imaginative play.

We had a very exciting visitor today! Angus the bull from Aberdeen Football club came!

1.4.22

Today we had an Encanto themed morning. We were challeneged to create our own house for the family. Each table were given a different material to use. We all created colourful multi-story houses. We really enjoyed this STEM challenge and working in our groups.

21.3.22 French

This term we have been learning our French days of the week and French months. We learnt what month our birthday is in French and have been practising saying the day of the week every morning.

We made month spinners to help us remember each month. We drew a picture in each space to help us remember what month it is.

Ask us at home what our birthday month is in French. Can you remember what Miss Davidson's birthday is in French?

14.3.22 Literacy

Today we read a story called 'Hamilton's Hats' . We learned that even though some animals were unkind to Hamilton by taking his hats, his positive attitude helped Hamilton to get his hat back and be who he wanted to be. We used this story to discuss positive emotion words and then made hats showing an example of a time that has made us feel brave, determined, patient, kind, generous, happy, proud or excited. We hope you enjoyed seeing our hats!

3.03.22 Our world Beyond

In P2/3 today we became space cadets and learnt all about the sun and earth.

"It takes one whole year for the Earth to spin around the sun" - Zach

"If the sun is shining on one side of the Earth that is daytime and the other time is nightime" - Emily

"There is an invisible line that the Earth spins on and it is called an Axis." - Akua.

"The moon takes a month to get around the Earth and the sun is a big ball of gas." - Alexander



8.2.22 Reading/Rights

Today we read a story called 'Davaatseren and the Big City'. We learned about how some Mongolian children live in tents called gers which are very different to the types of building we all live in. We had to try and build a ger using a variety of materials and fabrics. We also had to talk about whether we would prefer to live out in the countryside like Davaatseren or in a bigger city like Aberdeen. Our choices were exactly a 50/50 split!

24.1.22 Shape

Today we had a very active shape lesson. This week we are looking at 3D shapes. First we looked at the difference between a 3D shape and 2D shape. Then we tried to name as many shapes as we could.

After this we split up into 2 groups. The P3s were working on trying to build their shapes out of playdoh and lollypop sticks. Whilst the P2s were testing out whether their shapes roll or stack.


7.1.21

This week we have been learning about goal setting and have thought about what we want to achieve this year. We wrote and drew our goals in stars and put them up on the board so we don't forget them.


We have also been working on some Zentagonal art. We had lots of fun getting to draw and make lots of different patterns.

Drumming 15.12.21

Today we had lots of fun at our drumming workshop! We had a lot of fun learning to use drumsticks and play in a rhythm.

Christmas Window Display

We had lots of fun this week doing lots of Art acvitivies to decorate our windows with. We wrote a Christmas act on a christmas light and then decoarted them for the top of the window. We also made some snow men using lots of different materials.

Chritmas Characterisation 13.12.21

Today in P2/3 we were thinking about how to describe either an elf or a reindeer. We are going to write about our character on Wednesday. We got to decide how our character looks and how they act. We have a few naughty elves in P2/3!

9.12.21 Health and Well-being

Today in P2/3 we made a vegetable soup. We were learning how to chop and prepare different types of vegetables. We used potatoes, broccoli, leeks and celery. We really enjoyed getting to taste our soup at the end of the day.

23.11.21 P.E.

We are focusing on running games and activities in our Tuesday P.E. sessions. Ask us about the weekly running challenge we are doing!

23.11.21 Outdoor Learning/Art

First, we read 'The Squirrels who Squabbled' in our short read session.

Next, we thought about the natural materials mentioned in the story and which of those we might find in the playground. We used whiteboards to plan out a piece of outdoor art.

Finally, we went outside to collect natural resources for our art then we made our pictures on the playground.

Buddy Reading in the Willow Den

On Thursday P2/3 got to meet their P4/5 buddies. Our buddies read us a story from our Book Week Scotland reading packs. We had so much fun together.

15.11.21 Literacy 'The Highway Rat'

Today we started learning about Characterisation. Over the next few weeks we will be exploring the 'Highway rat' in more detail. Today we spoke about the story as a whole, we thought about what happened at the start, middle and end. We also discussed what happens to the rat and how he is described throughout the story.

15.11.21 COP26 Challenge

Today we completed our COP26 Loose Parts Challenge. In groups we were challenged to build a walk way that could get people from point A to point B safely. Our finished walkways had to be able to hold 2 the weight of 2 people. We learnt lots of important skills today including how to work effectively in a team. Before we went outside, in our teams we planned out what we wanted our walkway to look like and thought about the materials we might use to build it. We all managed to complete the challenge and create a walkway that met the criteria. Well done P2/3.

28.10.21 COP26

This week we have been learning about COP26. Today we read "Greta and the Giants", we found that what happened to Greta in the story has happened to our world too. Lots of trees have been cut down to make room for cities.

We also created our own promise to the world of how we can help to reduce the impacts of global warming. We found that there are lots of things we can do at home and in school that can help protect our world.

25.10.21 Short Read

Today we read 'The Day the Crayons Quit' by Drew Daywalt. We stopped part the way through and talked about the emotions the different crayons were feeling based on what they were being used to draw. Next, we were given a colour and made predictions about what that crayon might draw and how it might feel. We listened to the rest of the story to see if our predictions were right.

5.10.21 - P.E.

We have enjoyed learning a game called 'Waspital' in our indoor P.E. sessions. Ask us how to play!

23.9.21 Health and Well-Being 'Perfectly P2/3'

Today we listened to the story of 'Perfectly Norman.' We learnt about how everyone is different and thought about what makes everyone in P2/3 different. We found that our hair colour, eye colour, skin colour and the things we like are all different and that is okay. It is important to show off our differences. We created our own sets of wings just like Normans. Our wings are all different to show that we are all different.

21.9.21 Problem Solving

We heard a story called 'One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab'. Next we had to come up with as many solutions as possible to show a total of 12 when counting the numbers of legs on various animals. After drawing pictures of the animals we had to write the calculation underneath. A picture of one dog, one ostrich and one insect would have 4+2+6=12 written underneath. We got very creative when thinking about different combinations of animals!

20.9.21 The Bad Tempered-Ladybird

This term we are learning to retell stories. Last week we read the book 'The Bad Tempered-Ladybird' and thought about what the Ladybird did at the start, middle and end of the story. This week we used the information we gathered last week to create a story map of what happens at each point in the story. We really enjoyed retelling the story through our drawings!

14.9.21 Reading

Today we read a book called In My Heart. We used the yellow and orange Emotion Works cogs to share what causes us to feel different ways.

13.9.21 Art

We looked at the work of abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky. We then used our drawing, cutting and sticking skills to create our own concentric shapes. Each person made their own then we put them together to make a whole class piece of art. We think it looks amazing!

10.09.21 Castle Place Value

This week we have been learning about place value. We have been learning about our hundreds, tens and ones columns. Today we had a very active play based lesson. After we worked out the place values of each number, we were challenged to try and build something out of the relevant cubes. We created towers, faces and castles! Well done P2/3!

Literacy

In literacy we have been doing lots of spelling and handwriting practice. This week we went outside to practice writing our spelling words in chalk. We worked in teams and took it in turns to write the words.

Health and Wellbeing

This week we have been learning about how we are all unique and different. We used 'Inside Out' as our inspiration and created our own personality islands. We found that nobody's islands looked the exact same because we are all different.
