June 2021

As part of World Environment day we read 'This Class Can Save the Planet' by Stacy Tornid. We discussed lots of different things we can do to help our environment and how if everyone makes little changes, we can all make a big difference.

We learned about Ecosystems and created some Bug Hotels to try and regenerate life in our Willow Den.

June 2021

We have been using technology to learn to write code. We gave the Beebots and Dash and Dot instructions to make them move and light up. We even recorded our voices to make them speak.

We have been learning about halves and quarters. We have been playing lots of games inside the classroom and taking part in challenges in the Willow Den.

7.12.20 P1/2

As part of our work on Children's Rights and the UNCRC Article 2, we have been learning about discrimination. We have been learning how to celebrate our differences as our differences make us special.

P1/2 have been thinking about how to be a good friend. We read a story called Herman's letters about two friends and all of the lovely ways they showed they were friends; even when they were far away. We made up funky friendship handshakes like Herman and Henry in the story.

This week we have been thinking about how we treat other people. We read a story called 'Leave Me Alone' and acted out different scenarios where someone wasn't being kind. We had a lot of discussion about how it would feel and what we can do to help people who are being bullied. P1 agreed that we should just try to be kind to everyone!

As part of our Right's Respecting work, we thought about what we want our world to be like in the future. We had lots of discussion about the environment and how we want to live. We created pictures of ' My Wish for the World.'

P1/2 have been learning about the importance of a healthy balanced diet. We talked about how we need lots of fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins and a little of the tasty, but not as healthy, sweet things in our diets. P1 carried out a favourite food survey; recording their results using tally marks.

As part of our Life and Ethos work, P1/2 designed a Rights Mascot for Danestone Primary. The children has lots of fantastic ideas including using a book for the Right to Learn and a banana for the mouth to show the Right to healthy food. We then set the rest of the school a challenge of creating their own Rights Mascot. We will then judge the entries and pick a winner next week; we are very excited about this! Once we have a winner, we will use the mascot around the school to remind us of our Rights.

P1/2 took part in The Big Anti-bullying Assembly 2020. We have all taken the pledge to help stop bullying in our school. We thought about 5 people we can talk to if we see someone being bullied or we are being bullied ourselves. We created hand prints to sign up to the pledge.

P1/2 have been learning about people who help us. We started off thinking about who helps us at home and in school. We then talked about people who help us in our local community. We made hats showing some of the different jobs people do and had lots of fun playing different characters.

Today P1/2 had a Circle Time with a focus on sharing.

We had lots of fun working together to pass hoops around a circle. . We then had a discussion sharing positive messages. We took turns to say something lovely about a friend in our class.

P1/2 have been keeping their bodies fit and healthy by taking part in the Danestone Dash.

17.9.2 P1/2 have been focusing on Article 19; The Right To Be Safe.

Today we read a story about road safety. Super Cat gave us lots of tips on how to cross the road safely. We went outside to the road in the playground and had lots of fun being cars and people crossing the road.

In P1/2 we have been focusing on Article 19; The Right to be Safe. We read a book called Officer Buckle and Gloria. In this book, Officer Buckle and Gloria shared lots of tips to help the children stay safe in school. We had lots of discussion and made our own safety tips for our classroom.

P1/2 have been working hard in PE. We have been learning how to work as a team and have been sharing words of encouragement with our classmates.

P1/2 We have been reading the Colour Monster. We have used it to talk about our feelings. We had lots of discussion about how people and events can change our feelings. We drew some lovely pictures to show what makes us feel happy, sad, angry, afraid, calm and in love.
