This week we used our pictures to help with a construction challenge. In groups, we created 3D Eiffel Tower models using different materials. We worked together really well. It was interesting to discuss which types of construction worked the best for this type of challenge. If only we had cement!

22.4.22

Our garden project has begun! Last term we created some amazing designs for our garden and this term we are going to take the best bits of everyone's designs and make our fantastic garden beside the blue container. So far we have dug the soil, painted the fence, and planted some flowers inside welly boots. We have also planted lots of flowers and vegetable in seed trays. Once these have grown enough, we will transfer them to outside. Thank you so much for all of the generous donation of time and resources. We wouldn't be able to re-create our designs without support from our parents and carers.

After discussing positive emotion words, we made our very own 'feelings' hat. We showed we were able to draw something that made us feel good! I wonder if you could guess what our positive emotion was by looking at our hats when we wore them home?!

The challenge that followed was just a bit of fun! Each group had to draw the 99 sheep (who stayed with the shepherd) as quickly as possible!

Although fun, this challenge included many skills, such as team work, problem solving and counting. The first team to finish took 12 minutes 30 seconds. They were so close with 94 sheep! It wasn't as simple as we first thought!

We have all made promises to help the environment and we would like adults to join with us and make their own promise to be more sustainable. We found an app which we think will help you on your journey. We hope you enjoy our video telling you all about it.

Last week we hosted a Pudsey day to raise money for Children in Need. We made posters advertising the day and asking people for donations. We collected the funky hair and spotty clothes donations and used skip counting to work out how much we had of each coin. We also collected all of the coins from the Penny Pudsey, we haven't got a final total yet so look out for our final total announcement soon!

Feedback from our parents

"The drumming workshop looked like so much fun! Joshua is listening to the Sea Shanty song lots at home! "

9.11.21

Today we were learning to understand the importance of accepting and respecting others, and their differences. We read 'The Ugly Duckling'.

After reading the story, we discussed the types of things the six fluffy ducklings might have been saying to the 'ugly duckling' by looking at the pictures only. In pairs we wrote in speech bubbles what they might have said. After sharing these, we discussed how these unkind words might have made the little grey duckling feel. In p2/3 we know that it is important to accept and celebrate differences. We know we should treat others how we would like to be treated.

Before we finished we also filled in some speech bubbles to show how the beautiful swan might have felt at the end of the story. We love a happy ending!

Feedback from our parents

"I enjoyed seeing the children's work on "The Ugly Duckling" and I am pleased to hear they are learning about being kind and celebrating each others' differences. "

4.11.21

We wanted to tell you all about our Climate Challenge. "We have been learning that due to climate change there has been lots more flooding. We worked in teams to make a walkway that we could use to get to safety if we were in a flood. It had to be off the ground and hold the weight of 2 people. It had to be sturdy. We also learned how to carry the planks of wood safely between us. We used planks of wood, crates, plastic tubes, a rope, cable reels and bits of tree trunks. It was lots of fun." - words by P2/3 in our class discussion.

Well done to team 1 who after careful consideration were voted the winning design!

Sharing the Learning Assembly - Nov 21

29.10.21

This week we have had lots of fun during our maths challenges. We used leaves to calculate the area of shapes and measuring jugs to work out the capacity of different containers. We also worked together to calculate how many seeds are inside a pumpkin. We discussed the best way to sort and record the numbers so we didn't lose track. We were shocked to find out that 365 seeds fitted inside our pumpkin.

This term we have been reading 'The Twits' by Roald Dahl. We have really enjoyed finding out about all of the terrible tricks the characters have played on each other! We have been learning to use lots of different reading strategies to help us understand the story better.

Metacognition- We used Link Maker Lion to suggest lots of alternative titles for the story.

Visualisation- We read a chapter of the story and drew pictures of the images that were created in our heads.

Summarising- We worked in teams to retell the important events in the correct order. We had lots of discussion as there was some disagreement about the right order!

14.9.21

Today P2/3 worked in pairs to identify a variety of ways to sort 9 slightly different houses. They used whiteboards to record the various groupings.

They enjoyed sharing these interactively on the whiteboard, and encouraged their classmates to guess the criteria!

This is a 'low threshold high ceiling' problem. It is an open-ended task, which is ideal for children to do in pairs. These types of problem solving tasks encourage them to talk about and share what they are doing.

25.8.21

We have created our class charter. We talked about how lots of adults in countries around the world made a list of things that they thought were important to keep children safe; The UNCRC. We then looked at the SHANARRI wheel and discussed how adults in Scotland think children should be treated. We then created our own P2/3 charter using the articles we thought were most important for our classroom. We discussed how we can respect these Rights and Miss Miller wrote a Duty Bearer pledge with a promise of how she would respect our rights.
