15.06.22 Aberdeen Music Festival

We had the privilege to take part in the Aberdeen Music Festival this year. It was amazing to go and sing at the Music Hall. We sang two songs: Summer and Zipp-A-Dee-Doo-Dah. The children practiced so hard with Miss Hamilton and I am so pleased to say that we came home with a brilliant result. Not only did they achieve a Gold, but they were also the overall winners of the Maureen Vernal Trophy For Primary School Junior Class (P3 - P5). Thank you to all of the parents that came to support us, we really appreciate it!

27.05.22 Our Healthy World

We have been learning about our skeletons as part of our topic. We now know that we have joints that help our arms and legs bend and that each bone has a special name. Our skeleton is there to protect our organs and to help us walk up straight. We made skeletons by using a different selection of pasta. We then labelled our skeletons. They came out so well!

26.05.22 UKLA award

We received a wonderful package from the UKLA this week. As you might remember, P4 took part in a national competition called 'Our Class Loves This Book'. Unfortunately we did not win, but was gifted 10 amazing novels to add to our library. I am very proud of what the children achieved and the love they have for reading. Well done once again Primary 4.

29.04.22 World of Work Week

We had a wonderful week filled with visitors that came to school to tell us all about their jobs. It was fantastic to listen and learn what they do and what skills they use every day to be successful in their careers.

I liked listening to Mr Matheson and learn what a Subsea Engineer does - Jack

The artist, Mrs Hare, was so good because I really like art and I liked her paintings - Olivia

My favourite was the librarian, Denise, because I love reading and I am going to the library today! - Divina

Mr Wilson, the bus instructor, was my favourite because he was very kind and told us interesting things about his job - Ruby

My favourite was Miss Thomson. She is a Spa Therapist and my dream job is to be a spa therapist one day - Annabelle

I really liked listening to Mrs Beaton. She is a graphic designer. I think it is a cool job and I think I want to be one when I grow up - Amber

I enjoyed listening to Mrs Beutels, the Medical administrative assistant, because I think she has an interesting job interviewing people that want to be doctors - Maisey

Mr Horton told us all about his job as a Structural Engineer. It was interesting to hear about his job and where he works - Abby

It was fun interviewing and filming my mum and dad - Charlotte C

Can you guess what our dream jobs are?

We have been learning how sound travels. We now know that sound travels through the air by vibrating and making sound waves. It was great fun experimenting with pitch forks, water and rice. We then created our own paper cup telephones and had a great time talking to each other outside.

Follow this link to see us perform 'The Virginia Reel' as part of our Scotland topic. The children enjoyed learning this ceilidh and had so much fun performing it!

World Book day/week in Primary 4!

The children have been taking part in so many great activities to show their love of reading during this week. Primary 4 has been crowned as 'Reading Champions' in school and was given tasks to complete by Mrs Blair.

We were so lucky to meet the author Sarah Oliver this week. We learned so much about what she writes about, how she became an author and why she loves her job! We thought about what we could ask her on our Google Meet with her.

We also spent a beautiful, sunny afternoon creating reading dens for ourselves!

On World Book Day we celebrated by coming to school in our pyjamas! At the end of the day we had a 'bedtime story' where we got hot chocolate and a biscuit while we were reading our favourite books from home.

11.02.22 Internet Safety Assembly

This week we had a task to show what we have learned about internet safety during assembly. There were 4 tasks to choose from and the P4's decided that they wanted to make a video. They thought carefully about what questions they could ask, how to give good advice and what Article of the Rights of the Child they could link it to. Please follow the link below to have a look at it.

Adventure Aberdeen came to our school this week with a great activity for us! The program is called bike ability and my goodness, the children had so much fun! Safety first - we all had to wear a helmet before we could try out any bike that we wanted. There was BIG ones, little ones, bikes that you had to peddle with your hands and ones that you almost sat down flat on the ground. Thank you for this wonderful experience, we had lots of fun!

We had a great time building dens with the nursery this week! We worked together as a team to help and support the little ones and the P4's did a great job listening to their ideas. As a treat for working so hard we had some hot chocolate in the nursery garden to warm up our cold hands.

1.12.21 Life & Ethos

Primary 4 has a very important job this year where we are promoting reading for enjoyment across the school. We had a little think and decided to make a display for the school library where we show the rest of the pupils what we like to read. The children worked really hard on this and the end result is just gorgeous! We are already planning some other exciting things to do, so keep your eyes and ears open!

Remembrance Day - Poppy Art 10.11.21

With Miss McLoughlin, P4 created some beautiful poppy art by applying paints and materials in different ways to mark Remembrance Day. We used thumb prints for the poppies, watercolours and blending for the background of the sky and grass, and flicks or spots of paint for the sunlight reflections.

Feedback from our Parents

"I loved seeing the P4 poppy pictures. It looks like a lot of care and effort was put in to make these beautiful pictures."

"This is really amazing. Good work!! "

12.11.21

This week it is Talk Money week in Scotland. We took part in a 'Talk Money Workshop' via a Google Meet where we met Stacey that explained what it is to have a budget.

'I learned that when you go to certain places you don't always have to spend a lot of money' Asha

'You have to be 11 to get a debit card and 18 to get a credit card' Brodie

'Things that kids want to do can be really expensive' Charlotte C

'If you have a budget then you learn how much money you have to spend' Amber

This week we have been learning about why Christians celebrate Harvest time. At Danestone Primary, we take donated food to give to our local food bank and think about how lucky we are to have a lovely home and food to eat every day. We took part in a Harvest Scavenger hunt in the Willow Den (even though we got a bit wet!)

One of our reading strategies is visualisation. While we were listening to a chapter we used our play dough to mould a character or an object to show what we think it would look like. It was great fun and everyone came up with something really interesting!

Art - The Colour Wheel 10.9.21

P4 have been learning about the colour wheel with Miss McLoughlin in art. We have experimented in previous weeks with colour mixing - mixing primary, secondary and tertiary colours. This week we had a go at creating our own colour wheel eyes using the different shades of colours with pastels and black pens. Look how well they turned out!

2.09.21

Please enjoy watching our video where we raise awareness about nature and why we think it is important to look after it.

27.08.21

We have enjoyed reading our class novel 'The BFG' this week. We took part in lots of different activities to show our understanding of the text and characters . This week, we have been concentrating on one particular reading strategy - metacognition. It might sound like a big word, but we now know that it is all about predicting what will happen next in the story, looking for evidence and clues in the text and to discuss the characteristics of a character. The children worked in pairs to look for clues and evidence of where the BFG might be taking Sophie in chapter 3 of the novel. We used different coloured highlighters to help us with this task.
