Creative Learning Project

Starting from Term 2, our P4 class are working with the Creative Learning team on a project to develop more creative writing.  The project is led by Jessica Hernandez who will provide stimulus experiences which will usually incorporate the outdoors.  For our first block of sessions the children will be creating a very special Advent calendar which they will share with the whole school, our families and the community. Each week they will undertake special activities linked to seasonal and Advent stories. They will then write and illustrate  advent challenges for each day of the calendar.

Week 1 - Thursday 9th October

Before we headed to the Willow Den this morning the children gathered together to design the front covers of their creative learning jotters. They are also thinking of a special name for these. We then thought about what we need to think about to ensure our safety when learning outdoors and created a Jamboard to show our thoughts.

Before we headed out we also talked about protecting ourselves from the colder winter weather and what we needed to wear. We were lucky today that the sun was shining and it wasn't too cold.

Making our campfire for our story time. Back in class we will also write instructions about how to make a campfire.

The Story of St Martin

Jessica told the story of St Martin.  Martin was a soldier known for his gentleness and ability to bring warmth and light to those in need. He is best known for his kindness toward a poor beggar freezing outside the walls of a castle. Martin used his sword to cut his cloak in two and gave one half to the beggar. This act of compassion, which gave the beggar warmth is celebrated in France and Germany and Switzerland by making and lighting lanterns.

Lanterns

We made our own lanterns using tin cans. We used nails and hammers to make holes in the cans and then placed a light inside and used string to make a handle.
