First Minister's Reading Challenge

Our first Assembly this year launched our participation in the First Minister's Reading Challenge!

We believe that reading has the power to change lives and that developing a love of reading in childhood can have a huge impact on educational attainment and future wellbeing.

The First Minister’s Reading Challenge aims to help children and young people between the ages of 5 and 18 develop a love of reading. Just like the First Minister we’re supporting our school to develop a reading culture and give every child the opportunity to experience the benefits – and the fun – of reading for pleasure.

FMRC Launch Presentation

Our Assembly presentation explains more about the Challenge and some of the activities we are going to be involved in.

All children from P2 upwards will be given their own reading passport. This will allow them to record and rate and respond to all the reading that they do. Our P1 children will create their own class passport in the form of a big book.

The P4 Library group have made a wonderful video to show how to use the passport and the benefits of this.
