P5/6 Update September 2021

This year we are working towards earning our Digital Schools Award. To start we have been thinking about how we use technology in school. We made a Jam board to gather our ideas and discuss all the ways technology helps us learn. In school we use Sumdog, Google Workspace, Text Help to support learning and lots more.

Tuesday 15th June

Today P4 shared their Life and Ethos learning with the rest of the school. They showed us all the different ways they have been engaging with technology this year.

iMovie (Into Film)

The children have been learning how to create mini films through the iMovie app. They have been learning how to create, edit and reflect upon learning. The children have enjoyed the opportunity to use iMovie as a tool to record their learning. This week as part of Exciting Writing lesson the children were given a title Melvin the 'Sadish' Robot. The children were asked to create a comic strip about why he was sad.

Digital Schools Award

As part of our work towards our Digital Schools award one of our Technology Champions this week worked with a PSA to create a technology survey (Google Form). The data collected will hopefully provide a clear picture as to how technology is currently used in classes. The information collected will be analysed in class and the children will help to create next steps in terms of how we can support classes to use technology to enhance, extend and support independent learning activities.

Active Coding

Primary 4 engaged in a series of lessons all about coding. They were able to explain what an algorithm was whilst also creating ones of their own. They were inspired to learn a popular dance which has featured on media platform such as Tic Tok. The dance is based on a simple set of repeated instructions or 'algorithm'. The children were able to write a code to represent the dance and then attempted to learn it. They even created their own algorithms and taught them to other groups.

Primary 4's Top Tips for looking after ICT

Primary 4 were able to create a video with some Top Tips for advising pupils, visitors and staff how to look after the technology in school safely. The children firstly brainstormed all of their ideas by creating a mind map and then selected their top ones. Well done Primary 4!
