Castle System

At Danestone we have 6 Castles; Crathes, Dunnottar, Fyvie, Kildrummy, Drum and Fraser. Pupils from across the school can earn Castle Points for a variety of reasons including good behaviour, quality work, trying hard in class and outside in the playground. The pupils are very proud of their Castles and are always trying hard to earn more Castle Points.

Congratulations to our Term 1 Winners

Dunnottar

To celebrate Dunnottar being our winning Castle for this term they had a special extra playtime together. Pupils worked as a team to collaborate on the Maths Week Scotland Assembly quiz, demonstrated their team work and leadership skills through the Castle Challenge and worked together to earn castle points during the term.

Congratulations to Dunnottar!

Castle Challenge February 2022

Last week the Castle Captains and Vice Captains were trilled to host a Castle Challenge afternoon. The Captains and Vice Captains were eager to demonstrate their leadership skills by creating a challenge for everyone From P1 to P7 to participate in. Each Castle took the lead in designing a station. Stations included football scoring, bean bag balancing, skipping, pass the baton and hockey dribbling.

The Castle Captains and Vice Captains organised their Castle and took lead in supporting them through each of the activities. It was incredibly lovely to see the Captains and Vice Captains demonstrate their leadership skills by supporting each member of their team, showing encouragement and enthusiasm whilst communicating with each other to ensure they kept to their timetable.

All of our pupils across the school thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to come together in each of their Castles for the challenge. Each of the Castles worked incredibly well together and were able to support each other to earn as many Castle Points as they could.

All of the Castles demonstrated incredible team work and support for each other during the challenge. Well done to all the Castles, particularly our winning Castle Crathes!

Castle Point Box Competition November 2021

To relaunch the use of our Castle Point tokens, the Castle Captains and Vice Captains set a design competition. They asked pupils to design a new label for their Castle Point box. Everyone did an excellent job of designing a label showcasing their castle and colour. The Castle Captains and Vice Captains loved all of the entries and thought it was amazing how creative our pupils are at Danestone. A huge well done to our winners! All of the entries are displayed next to the Castle Point boxes for everyone to see.

Introducing our 2021-22 Castle Captains and Vice Captains

All of our Primary 7's had the opportunity to apply to become a Castle Captain. Interested applicants created a Google Slide to share their skills, attributes and reasons as to why they would make an excellent captain. The presentations were shared with the whole school and pupils were asked to vote for their preferred captain. All of our applicants created fantastic presentations so it was very tricky for pupils to decide!

Well done to everyone!

Castle Flag Competition 2021

The Castle Captains set a extra special challenge for our P1 to P7 pupils. Pupils were asked to design a castle flag that represented their castle. Our pupils were incredibly creative and it was amazing to see such variety in their designs. The Castle Captains and Vice Captains had an incredibly tricky job of choosing their winners as all of the entries really reflected their castle so well. All of the flags were displayed in the gym hall for the pupils to see.

Well done to everyone who submitted a design!

April 2021

The Castle Captains and Vice Captains did an incredible job today updating our pupil friendly Curriculum Rationale to include the Rights of a Child.

They worked together in their Castle pairs to review the rationale and consider which of the Rights linked with the statements. The group were able to identify that our Curriculum Rationale meets so many of the Articles, from setting up or joining groups (Article 15) to aims of education (Article 29).
