June 2022 - Activities Week
Take a look at the highlights from this years Primary 7 Activities Week!
15.05.22 - Outdoor Learning
P7 have been having a fantastic time keeping our garden looking lovely. We have been discussing what is and isn't a weed as well as why it's important to keep them away from flowers. We have also had great questions and discussions about roots and flowers and why some plants look different! We are really proud of our work.
27.05.22 - IDL
We have been loving using our play classroom this term. We have tried lots of numeracy challenges, build models of famous landmarks, created sustainable buildings, put together pieces of the body and even created lego models of parts of our body! We said that "it's nice to learn in different ways because not everyone likes reading and writing."
22.04.22 - Art
Primary 7 have been studying different artists as part of our Art and Design work. We said that we were especially interested in abstract art, so we decided to read all about Henri Matisse as part of our Reflective Reading and then create some art inspired by him! We discussed colours, line and shape and how contrasting colours can be used to make certain features of our art stand out. We also learned that Henri Matisse was originally supposed to be a lawyer and had some lovely discussion about making sure we find a career that we love just in time for World of Work Week.
29.03.22 - Health and Wellbeing
In Health and Wellbeing, we have been discussing how what we show on the outside compares with what we are feeling on the inside. We thought about Luisa from Encanto and how she talks about 'surface pressure' and used this knowledge to create an iceberg of what we were feeling. We realised that the emotions you show on the outside don't often relate to the emotions you might be feeling on the inside - and thought that it was really important to discuss exactly how you are feeling!
23.03.22 - Context
We are so proud of our Topic wall! It has been a great way to evidence our Big Questions and all of the learning we have been doing in this topic.
08.03.22 - Context
Primary 7 have been learning all about the planets as part of our Context topic this term - Our Planet Beyond. We had a go at creating planet Top Trumps, did a factfinding scavenger hunt and even explored whether or not the scale of images of our solar system is accurate! We then created some fantastic two-page spreads to detail all of our learning.
22.02.22 - Enterprise
P7 have been creating their own businesses! As part of our IDL topic, we have been discussing what it takes to create and market a business. We learned about profit margins, supply chains, branding and market research. Then we had a go at designing our own product or service which we pitched to the class! There were lots of interesting ideas from heated jackets to chewing gum that never lost it's flavour.
21.02.22 - STEM
"P7 had a visitor from North East Scotland College to teach us about pneumatic energy. We made trucks out of recycled materials and created energy by blowing into a balloon to move the tipper up and down. To make these we used cardboard, wooden wheels, rubber grommets, tube, balloons and a rubber band. We learned how to problem solve, measure, use tools and create something out of different materials. Our favourite part was when we finished and got to see the truck move because we had worked really hard all day! Our next steps are to make another pneumatic design." - Chloe and Aaron, P7.
21.01.22 - Literacy
P7 have been enjoying practising our spelling words in new ways! Our focus this week was suffixes like 'fore' and 'aqua' and how they can change a word by giving it a new meaning. We particularly liked getting outside to use natural materials or waterpainting to create our spelling words. We also had lots of interesting discussion about evaporation and why our words disappeared from the ground!
25.01.22 - Art
P7 have been learning all about the things that represent Scotland. We created some art inspired by Gillian Kyle, using teacake wrappers to create silhouettes of famous Scottish symbols or landmarks. We discussed focal points and how these can be created using block colours to draw attention to specific parts of our art. Our next steps are to try adding different texture or collage to our artwork.
17.12.21- Languages.
P7 have been really keen to learn some more British Sign Language. Our focus this week has been learning some Christmas vocabulary in the run-up to the holidays! We have been learning Christmas-themed signs as well as signing along to some Christmas songs. We are excited to show our friends and family our new signs outside of school!
22.11.21 - Languages.
After watching a Newsround episode which featured deaf learners and celebrities, Primary 7 have been learning about sign language and how to communicate with people who use this. We decided to learn this as it's an important life skill and means that we can be more inclusive towards others in school and in the future when we start working. We started by learning the alphabet so we could sign our names, and now we have been learning some songs! Our next steps will be to learn to sign sentences or greetings.
Newsround saw our tweet! We are very excited to have been able to share our learning with them.
05.11.21 - IDL (COP26)
This week we have been focusing on the environment in the run-up to COP26. On Monday we attended a talk about litter, where we learnt about engineers and how they can help the environment. Then we had a go at being engineers on our own and designed 'litter robots' to help clean up the playground. We discussed how to make them durable and sustainable, as well as design features that are important for our robot to do his job!

10.09.21 - IDL (Global Goals).
This week in Primary 7 we have been thinking about our Global Goals - in particular number 13, Climate Action. We discussed what would make a sustainable school and how we could improve our environment through safe, eco-friendly choices like growing our own food and recycling paper. Then we designed our own eco-friendly school and created them outside with natural materials.
