We had three assemblies this week to celebrate the songs and poems of Scotland. The children have been learning about Scotland and comparing it to the world beyond. The children learned a range of songs and poems which were shared during Assembly times on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Scottish Assembly Tuesday 1.2.22
Scottish Assembly Thursday 3.2.22
Scottish Assembly Frdiay 4.2.22

Some children recited their poem individually, within a small group or part of their class.

We were so happy that our boys and girls at home could join us too.

Wednesday 1st December

Our Assembly focus for this week and next is the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

Let's learn about the Global Goals!

P2/3 M have made a video about the Global Goals and the Act Now app.

Each class has now been set a challenge to make the Global Goals famous. We will share this when we have finished.

Friday 26th November

Nursery assembly today was about the ways in which we are all different. Mrs Blair and the boys and girls read and sang the story Ten in a Bed. The children were wonderful at identifying the ways in which the children in the bed were all different but also made comparisons to themselves. They were also amazing at counting because everyone in the story like to roll over and fall out of the bed so by the end of the story the bed was empty!!!

The Minibeast and Forest classes joined together today. The children listened so well and we are all so proud of how well they are doing.

Well done everyone!!

Wednesday 24th November

We celebrated receiving our Gold Rights Respecting Schools banner which is now proudly displayed near our school entrance. We had a whole school assembly in the playground to recognise our achievement together. In September we had 'make some noise for Afghanistan' but on Wednesday we made some noise for Danestone!! We also used tarps to turn our playground blue in support of UNICEF.

Wednesday 17th November 2021

Today the P4-7 pupils were discussing bullying. They talked about how kindness is so important and we should always think about how other people are feeling. They then working in small groups to create Anti-Bullying posters to share around the school. We hope you enjoy looking at them.

The P1-3 children were also thinking about anti bullying and the message of One Kind Word. Mrs Blair told a story about a child who was bullied and how their school was able to help them.

We talked with the person next to us about kind words we had said to others and that had been said to us. We reflected on how kindness makes us feel and that we can be kind in so many different ways.

We listened to our school song which promotes our school values with one of these being kindness.

Friday 12th November 2021

Minibeast Class

Forest Class

Nursery have been learning about looking after our world and recognising the important messages behind COP26. Over the last two weeks they have loved the story of Greta and the Giants by Zoe Tucker. The children were really good at talking about what the giants were doing that was not good for the world and understanding why Greta wanted them to stop. This week Mrs Blair read the story 'Tidy' by Emily Gravett which again looked at how the wrong actions can effect our world.

Mrs Blair showed the children Dug's Discovery Den which has lots of fun activities linked to COP26. The children were very excited that the Greta and the Giants story was on this and that they could read this at home with their grown ups. We also watched a video about what happens to rubbish and then sang a song about Recycling!

Wednesday 10th November 2021

The P1 - 3 classes had an outdoor assembly this week. We met in our wonderful willow den and the children were so excited to be together rather than meeting virtually. We hope to have willow den assemblies every week if the weather is fine. Our assembly time looked at lots of different themes which are shared below. It was lovely to get feedback from the children and dancing and singing will need to be a part of our assemblies from now on!

"I loved the assembly it was so much fun .. especially the dancing!"

"Can we dance in assembly all the time?"

"Could everyone in the houses hear our singing?"

Week beginning the 1st November 2021

We hosted a whole school assembly on Friday to investigate just how much we use maths in our everyday lives. Pupils also shared some of their learning from the week with the rest of the school. Classes shared how they have been researching famous mathematicians, exploring maths in the Danestone landscape and identifying what maths skills they might use in the dream jobs.

Challenge 1

The First Minister’s Reading Challenge is a chance for you to go on a reading journey, read whatever material interests you, discover new books along the way and tell everyone all about it!

Today Mrs Blair spoke to the children about the challenge and explained how we were going to be involved in this during this session.

The children can't wait to get started reading. Primary 4 are going to support us all with this challenge this year and we look forward to hearing their ideas for making Danestone a reading school.

P4-7 Assembly Friday 11th June

The P4-7 children were learning more about kindness and the different ways we can all show kindness to each other. The children watched a film called All of Us. It was winner of the 2019 New York Festivals Gold Medal Award is a 6-minute animated film about friendship and courage in a dangerous world. The children were able to make links to all of our values and discussed the kindness shown by the children in the film.

The infant classes having also been thinking about respect. To develop their awareness of what respect looks like the children were involved in GOTCHA! If they 'caught' a classmate being respectful they could say GOTCHA and reward them with a sticker. Our video shows some of the P1 and P3 children talking about the GOTCHAs they had given and received.

Friday 4th June

Respect- What does it mean to us?

 P1-3  Assembly Friday 21st May

A Boy Called Jack

Our Assembly time this week considered courage through the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We linked his need for courage to Article 27 which highlights the right to food, clothing and a safe home for all children. Jack and his mother were very poor and Jack showed immense courage to make his life better. However, the Rights of the Child perspective is that Jack shouldn't have had to do this. We hope you enjoy your our video which shows the children's repsonse to what they think Jack needs in relation to Article 27.

Nursery and P1-3  Assembly Friday 14th May

This week we thought about courage and how this value links to the Rights of the Child. Having access to education is certainly in the best interest of the child. Mrs Blair gave a very special mention to our P1 children who had shown great courage in their first days of school. They had had to come into school without their families or buddies to help them. Infact, some of our P1 children had never even been inside of our school! The responses to support our new P1 children is outstanding and shows all the school values we promote all the time.
