P5 Mr Farquhar
Term 3 - Adventure Writing
This term we are combining our skills in 3D shape, chance and uncertainty and descriptive settings! Together we created 3D objects out of paper to represent dice such as cubes and icosahedrons (20-sided) and use them to determine how well our creative characters will do with a range of obstacles and risks like pits, monsters and huge walls of thorny vines.
Term 3 - Gymnastics
We have finished our gymnastics block wonderfully brought on by the sports students from RGU, who have showed us how to do a range of rolls, sequences and climbing!
Term 2 - Carbon Capture
As part of our Super STEM topic, P5 have been finding out the answers to questions like "What is carbon made out of?", "How can we reduce our carbon footprint?", "What kind of rock is best for storing CO2 emissions?" and "how do you seperate oil from water?". Our main goal is to raise awareness of how we can keep a sustainable environment with the Carbon Capture program.Â
Term 2 - Mandarin
This term, P5 have started learning Mandarin as part of their second learned language at Danestone Primary. We have been learning the basics of how to greet each other and ask for our names, as well as exploring aspects of Chinese culture.
Term 2 - Life + Ethos: Charities!
P5, with the P3s, have been working hard on their new Life and Ethos focus - charities. We worked together to create an action plan for what we thought the school could do for local charities. Our first target? Create a Winter food drive in the run up to the end of the year!
Term 1 - Buddies
We have met and welcomed our new P3 buddies and so far have had a wonderful time helping them with their learning and creative projects. These have involved reading, outdoor learning and technology!
Term 1 - Violin Maestros
With the help of Ms. Cormack from the council's music centre, we are developing on our violin skills. Now we are able to use first and second finger notes on the A string to play a B and C note!
2/10/23 - Offshore Wind 4 Kids at Aberdeen Science Centre
As part of our "Making the World a Better Place" context, we explored renewable energies and decided to visit Aberdeen Science Centre. There, we were shown the difference between on-shore and off-shore wind along with how each are built. We even got to build our own using models and trying out different methods!
