Open morning
We invited our family and friends to come and see what we have been learning during this term in class. We had numeracy and literacy stations where we could share our skills and knowledge. Thank you to everyone that took the time to come and visit it. It is always lot of fun to share our classroom with you all.
A visit from Bud and the Poppy bus at Danestone!
Bud is Poppyscotland’s micro-museum travelling across Scotland sharing stories of reflection and hope. We have been so lucky to get a visit from them. We learned more about how Poppies are made, where and why they started making them and we also learned about the key people that played a part in the history of the Poppy. We also learned a bit more about WWII and how we remember those brave fallen soldiers and also how we can support the soldiers that still serve today. P7 even had the opportunity to make their very own Poppies! I know that we will remember this visit for a long time.

Transition day at Oldmachar Academy
This week we had the opportunity to spend the day in the art department at the academy. We have been researching 4 different eras in art to show the theme 'How things change'. The pupils had to create a google slide where they had to research and put a presentation together to showcase what they have learned.
Realism with a focus on Davinci and his painting Mona Lisa
Pop Art with a focus on Lichtenstein and The Sleeping Girl
Impressionism with a focus on Van Gogh and his Portrait of Joseph Roulin
Modern Art with a focus on Kandinsky and his portrait Composition 8
At the academy the pupils used mirrors and drew a self portrait. They then divided their portrait into 4 parts where they showcased each style of art. We worked closely with the art teachers and learned lots of new skills such as how to mix primary colours to get the perfect colour to use on our portraits for our hair, skin and eyes. Once we have completed our paintings the art teachers will come down and listen to our presentations. We are all very excited about this!

Victorians
This term we have been reading Oliver Twist while learning about the Victorian Era. We learned that it was a wonderful time for inventions, that children worked very hard and that going to school was very, very different to the way we go to school today! We also learned how to cross stitch - some pupils found this tricky, but they all concentrated and work so hard! They also had to research and prepare a presentation about their chosen topic about the Victorian Era and they all did a fantastic job! We looked at what Aberdeen looked like during that time and compared the living conditions between then and now.

World Book Day
It was a very comfy day as we got to come to school dressed in our pyjamas! We had a day filled with lots of lovely literacy activities. Have a look at our 'Story Chair'. In Primary 7 we all designed a front cover of their favourite novel and then we glued it on. It came out so amazing!

Rotary Quiz ASG Winners
We were invited along to this years Rotary Quiz that was held at Braehead School. Primary 7 teams from across the ASG competed in the Rotary Club's general knowledge quiz. The quiz consisted of 10 rounds of 6 questions based on topics such as technology, alphabet, maths, written word, nature, art and science. Our team were thrilled to be the winners of the ASG round and are looking forward to competing against other winning Aberdeen teams in April.
Good Luck Team Danestone!
February 2023
Primary 7 was invited to visit Wagamama in Union Square. There was a lot of excitement leaving school before anyone else got here on a beautiful Thursday morning.
We arrived at a very quiet Union Square. When we walked into the restaurant we met the manager called Dorota and her team of chefs and helpers. They did a safety talk and explained what our tasks will be. There was 3 stations.
The first station was 'Design and create your own smoothie'. We were divided into 2 groups where we all got to add fruits and vegetables. We also had to come up with a name for our special smoothie. Most of us were really surprised how delicious it was! We learned that you need to add more apples in as the base of your smoothie to make it sweet.
The second station was 'Weigh out ingredients'. Here we had to weigh out red peppers, noodles, sweetcorn and peapods to create the dish called Yaki Soba. It was really fun to try and get the precise weight for each ingredient.
The third station was 'Food tasting and chopsticks competition'. Here we got competitive! We were divided into 4 teams. We had the task of seeing who can pick up and move the most beans from one bowl to the other. We were given training chopsticks first and then moved on to proper ones.
At the end the staff served us our Yaki Soba and it was DELICIOUS! We had the best time and would deifinitely go back to eat there! Thank you to all of the Wagamama staff that were so amazing to us all!
January 2023
It has been a very busy start of the year in P7.
We started by creating these mesmerising calendars using optical illusions.
Our topic for the first part of the new term is 'Our Planet and Beyond'.
The first Big Question we wanted to answer was - How big is our solar system?
We went outside to investigate the distance that the planets are from each other. We did this by using a trundle wheel to measure out the distances.
We also investigated the scale of the planets. We worked in groups to measure out the size of each planet. We used a compass to make perfect cirlces. Some of the planets were so big that we had to use a string to measure them out!
Mrs Blair helped us to make these amazing images of what Scotland looks like from the Space Station!
December 2022
Primary 7 took the opportunity to make snow sculptures this week! We all love to play in the snow, but we thought it will be great fun to take our lesson outside. We divided ourselves into groups and dressed up warm before heading outside. We had to build one of our school value animals. It was great to see how everyone listened to each others ideas and work together as a team to make their creations.
I am sure that you will agree that the children did a great job!
December 2022
The Primary 7's went to ABSAFE on a very snowy morning this week. They educate schools in the fundamentals of health and safety awareness. The activities were engaging, interactive and most importantly, fun! The pupils learned a lot throughout the day and gave some great responses when asked what they have learned and most importantly what they enjoyed the most! Thank you to all of the people and volunteers that was part of organising the day, we really appreciate it!
What did you enjoy doing?
What did you learn?
November 2022
We had our first transition session at Old Machar this week! We had a brisk walk up the hill to take part in some activities and get a tour through the school and around the grounds. It was lovely to see what the classrooms look like and what kind of lessons they will be taking part in.
October 2022
Primary 7 took part in a topic called 'Learning Lab' in association with Aberdeen Science Centre. During this topic we have been learning about how we can generate clean or 'green' electricity. We did this in four modules which were: electricity, transport, heat and carbon capture. During these modules there were time for experiments, discussion on how this impact us as a community and problem solving. We also had the opportunity to return to the ASC where we learned a bit more about these topics and experimented with the activities they provided on the premises. Here is a short video of what we got up to!
September 2022
It has been great spending time with our Primary 1 buddies every week. Primary 7 has been so good at helping them and sharing our aims and values with the youngest pupils in our school. We look forward in sharing lots of other fun learning opportunities with them!
August 2022
Primary 7 had a wonderful opportunity to take part in a workshop with the ASC (Aberdeen Science Centre)
We started the day by arriving at the ASC to meet all of the helpers and to learn about what we will be doing. We learned all about how wind farms are helping the environment by regenerating energy and how it is being developed on the coast of Aberdeen and around the world.
We then walked down to the beach where we assembled our very own wind turbines in groups. We were so lucky with the weather, it was cloudy with a little bit of a breeze that helped turning the blades. The children had great fun running up and down the beach watching the red light switch on which means that we were generating electricity! It was so exciting to see all of our turbines being placed in to ocean to see them work.
After spending the morning on the beach we returned to the ASC where we watched a film about energy and the different ways it is generated. We had the opportunity to look around and use the experiments in the centre. It was a great day out and an amazing start to our first week in Primary 7!
