Health - #snackspiration
Pupil Feedback June 23
Health group
During Health groups first meet today we began to discus what we'd like to change about the health in our school. Snacks became a big topic of discussion and we agreed that they could be better.
We decided we needed to answer the question 'what makes a great snack?'
We then brain stormed some healthy snack ideas & planned to try them during the next meet so that we could tell everyone what we thought.
We also designed a brilliant logo.
Health group's 2nd meet
We had great fun in health group trying lot's of snacks that we had suggested during the last meet. We challenged ourselves to try new things and to be open to new foods. See below for all the snacks we tried.
During our next meet we will create guidelines to show our learning to others about what makes a great snack.
What makes a great snack?
Low in salt.
Low in sugar.
Something you love to eat!
No nuts!
Something different.
Not too expensive.
Something that’s healthy and makes you feel great!
The health group have created these guidelines to show what makes a great snack to take to school! Or for whenever you need a snack!
Please let us know if you find these helpful.
Competition time!
Health group have decided to run a whole school competition to see who can make the best 'great snack'!
Please check your google classrooms for all the details on how to enter.
We designed and made a yoghurt topper!
Ask a member of the health group for the ingredients.
Competition winner!
We have a 'great snack' design winner! As voted for by the health group.
See below for the winning recipe and how you can make your own!
Banana Weetabix muffins
Ingredients:
3 Bananas, Overripe
4 Weetabix , 60 grams
185 mls of milk
2 eggs
80 grams of melted butter or oil
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
210 grams of self raising flour
1 tablespoons of brown sugar
Instructions
Preheat oven to 180c.
Prepare a baking tray (you may need two or do in two batches).
In a bowl add the mashed banana, crushed Weetabix and milk, stir gently and leave to soak for 10 minutes.
In the meantime in another bowl combine the eggs, melted butter and vanilla extract and whisk together well and set to one side.
In a separate bowl add the self raising flour and brown sugar mix well and set aside.
After ten minutes add the butter mixture to the banana Weetabix mixture and stir through until fully combined.
Pour the mixture into the flour.
Combine with a wooden spoon, careful not to over stir until no lumps of flour remain.
Cook in oven for 25 minutes!
This recipe should make between 12-20 muffins, (depending on how big you make them) when I made them I managed to make 16!
