NESCOL SuSTEMability

Celebration Day

May 2022

Primary 6/7 and 7 have been involved in a SuSTEMability project led by North East Scotland College. The first round of the SuSTEMability Challenge was held in school and one team was chosen from Primary 6/7 to attend the finals hosted at the NESCOL Campus. The team were thrilled to be invited along to share their design with the judging panel. At the event the team had the opportunity to see other winning designs and discuss what impact they had on the environment. The team were incredible proud to the win the SuSTEMability Local Impact Award for their shark design to collect plastic and recycle it to make the North Sea cleaner and safer for the animals that live there. A huge well done to all the pupils but especially our NESCOL team for their achievement.

The team competed in the Crane Challenge where they needed to use materials to construct their own crane. The team did exceptionally well and managed to hook, lift, manoeuvre and load 8 500ml bottles onto a shipping container. Overall the team were thrilled to be announced the STEM challenge Primary Award. Well done to the team for their fantastic team work, communication and problem solving skills that they demonstrated at the event.
