< Tenerus, son of Epopeus >
1 Origin
Tenerus (or Pelasgus, Pelagon) was born in Aegialeia (later Sicyon) in 1350 BC.
Tenerus' mother was Metope (or Melia). [Apo.3.12.6, Diod.4.72.1, Paus.9.10.6]
Metope's husband was Epopeus, son of Aloeus, and Tenerus' father was Epopeus. [See Epopeus]
2 Family
Tenerus probably had a son named Tiresias. [Inferred from Apo.3.6.7]
3 Others
Tenerus was the oldest prophet recorded in Greek historical sources. [Paus.9.26.1]
In 1330 BC, Tenerus established an oracle on Mount Ptous in Boeotia. [Strabo.9.2.34]
In 371 BC, before the Battle of Leuctra, an oracle was issued from the oracle on Mount Ptous. [Paus.4.32.5]
However, after the destruction of Thebes by Alexander the Great in 335 BC, the oracle on Mount Ptous ceased to issue oracles. [LeakeN.2.279]
