< Euaechme, daughter of Alcathous >

1 Origin

Euaechme was born in Onchestus, Boeotia, in 1278 BC.

Euaechme's father was Megareus, son of Hippomenes (or Onchestus). [Paus.1.43.4]

Euaechme's mother was Iphinoe, daughter of Nisus. [Paus.1.39.6]

2 Family

Euaechme married Alcathous (or Alcathus), son of Pelops. [Paus.1.41.5]

Alcathous and Euaechme had a son, Callipolis. [Paus.1.43.5]

Alcathous and Euaechme had a daughter, Periboea (or Eriboea). [Diod.4.72.7, Apo.3.12.7, Paus.1.42.4]

Alcathous and Euaechme had a daughter, Iphinoe. [Paus.1.43.4]

3 Others

Alcathous became king of Megara after Nisus, who died in the battle with Minos. [Paus.1.41.6, Paus.1.42.4]

When the family tree was made, Euaechme was not yet of marriageable age at that time.

It is presumed that Alcathous did not become king of Megara by marriage to Euaechme, the granddaughter of Nisus, but inherited the kingship as the son-in-law of Sciron, the father of Alcathous' wife Pyrgo.

Sciron had the right to inherit the kingship of Megara. [Paus.1.39.6]
