< Nemea, daughter of Sisyphus >
1 Origin
Nemea was born in Sicyon, Argolis, in 1264 BC.
1.1 Father of Nemea
Nemea, daughter of the river god Asopus, gave her name to the town between Phlius and Mycenae. [Paus.2.15.3]
The first person to appear in historical sources as the ruler of Nemea is Lycurgus. [Apo.3.6.4]
It is believed that Lycurgus' father Pronax migrated to the area from Argos and founded Nemea. [Estimated from Apo.1.9.13]
The period when Pronax migrated was the same as the period when his brother Adrastus fled to Sicyon, and it is believed that Pronax's migration was due to internal conflict in Argos. [Apo.3.6.2, Paus.2.6.6, Pind.Ne.9]
And the woman who was the wife of Pronax and the mother of Amphithea, the wife of his brother Adrastus, was probably Nemea, who gave the name to the city founded by Pronax. [Estimated from Apo.1.9.13]
When a genealogy is made, the most suitable candidate for Nemea's father chronologically is Sisyphus, the son of Aeolus of Corinth.
Therefore, it is assumed that Nemea's father, the river god Asopus, was Sisyphus.
2 Family
Nemea married Pronax, the son of Talaus. [Estimated from Apo.1.9.13-14]
Pronax and Nemea had a daughter, Amphithea. [Apo.1.9.13]
