< Capaneus, son of Alector >

1 Origin

Capaneus was born in Argos in 1255 BC.

Capaneus' father was Alector, son of Anaxagoras. [Paus.2.18.5]

2 Family

Capaneus had a son, Sthenelus. [Apo.3.10.8, Home.4.401, Hyginus.97, Paus.2.18.5]

3 Others

Capaneus belonged to the Anaxagoridae, one of the three royal families of Argos.

Capaneus's father, Alector, was succeeded by Capaneus's brother, Iphis, as king of Anaxagoridae.

However, since Iphis was succeeded by Capaneus' son, Sthenelus, it is assumed that Capaneus died before Iphis.
