< Aerope, daughter of Catreus >
1 Origin
Aerope (or Eriphyle) was born in Cnossus, Crete, in 1254 BC.
Aerope's father was Catreus, son of Minos. [Apo.3.2.1]
2 Family
Aerope married Pleisthenes (or Plisthenes), son of Atreus. [Apo.3.2.2, Euri.Scho.Or.5.1, Dictys.1.1]
Pleisthenes and Aerope had a son, Agamemnon. [Apo.3.2.2, Dictys.1.1, 5.16, Strabo.8.6.10]
Pleisthenes and Aerope had a son, Menelaus. [Apo.3.2.2, Dictys.1.1, 5.16, Paus.3.1.5, MalaChro.5.94]
3 Others
In 1235 BC, Aerope was married off from Crete to Pleisthenes, who lived in Cleonae in Argolis. [Apo.3.2.2, Euri.Scho.Or.5.1, Dictys.1.1]
Phliasus lived in Phlius, about 10 km away from Cleonae, where Pleisthenes lived.
Phliasus was the son of Ariadne, daughter of Minos, and Aerope was Phliasus' cousin. [Hyginus.14, Paus.2.6.6, Apollo.1.115]
It is assumed that Phliasus mediated the long-distance marriage between Pleisthenes and Aerope.
