1 Origin

Hyrieus was born in Arcadia in 1442 BC.

Hyrieus' mother was Alcyone, daughter of Orchomenus. [Apo.3.10.1]

 

1.1 Father of Hyrieus

Hyrieus' father is presumed to be Megassares for the following reasons:

1) Hyrieus was the godfather of Hyria in Boeotia. [Nonnus.13.83]

2) Pharnace's father, Megassares, was the king of Hyria. [Apo.3.14.3]

3) According to the genealogy, Megassares was one generation before Hyrieus.

 

2 Family

Hyrieus married his mother's sister, Celaeno. [Apo.3.10.1]

Hyrieus and Celaeno had a son, Nycteus. [Apo.3.10.1, Hyginus.157]

Hyrieus and Celaeno had a son, Lycus. [Apo.3.10.1, Hyginus.157]

Hyrieus and Celaeno had a son, Eupemus. [Hyginus.157]

 

3 Others

Hyrieus (or Chthonius) was one of the five Sparti who were second only to Cadmus in power. [Apo.3.4.1, Hyginus.178, Tze.10.430]

In 1430 BC, Hyrieus immigrated from Arcadia to Samothrace accompanied by his father.

In 1420 BC, Hyrieus and his father joined Cadmus' migration from Samothrace to Boeotia. [Estimated from Apo.3.14.3]

Hyrieus founded Hyria, located near Euboea near the Strait of Euripus. [Nonnus.13.83]
