< Antiope, daughter of Nycteus >
1 Origin
Antiope was born in Hysiae, Boeotia, in 1385 BC.
Antiope's father was Nycteus, son of Hyrieus (or Chthonius). [Apo.3.5.5, Paus.2.6.1, Strabo.9.2.12, Hyginus.155]
Antiope's mother was Polyxo. [Apo.3.10.1]
2 Family
Antiope married Eleuther, son of Aethusa, who lived in Eleutherae, south of Hysiae and across Mount Cithaeron. [See Amphion]
Antiope and Eleuther had twin brothers, Amphion and Zethus. [Apo.3.5.5, Paus.2.6.3]
Iasius, who succeeded Eleuther, is also thought to be Antiope's son. [Paus.9.20.1]
3 Others
There is a legend about Antiope and Epopeus, king of Sicyon, but it is thought to be a fabricated story. [See Epopeus]
