Arcesilaus was born in Thespiae, Boeotia, in 1230 BC.

Arcesilaus' father was Archilycus (or Areilycus), son of Itonus. [Diod.4.67.7, Hyginus.97]

Arcesilaus' mother was Theobula. [Hyginus.97]

Arcesilaus led the Boeotians on an expedition to Troy and was killed in battle. [Home.Il.2.494, 15.328]

Lacritus' son Leitus, cousin of Arcesilaus, brought back Arcesilaus' remains and buried them in Lebadeia. [Paus.9.39.3]
