< Aesyetes, son of Capys >

1 Origin

Aesyetes was born in Abydus, Troad in 1295 BC.

1.1 Father of Aesyetes

The father of Aesyetes is presumed to be Capys, the son of Assaracus (or Asarakos), for the following reasons:

1) Assaracus was left behind in Dardanus with his father Tros when his half-brother Ilus succeeded him as king of Wilusa and moved to Ilium. [Photios.186.12]

2) Aesyetes' son Antenor ruled in Dardania. [Strabo.13.1.33]

3) Assaracus only had one child, Capys. [Apo.3.12.2, Dictys.4.22, Diod.4.75.5, Home.Il.20.220, Ovid.4.19]

2 Family

Aesyetes had a son, Antenor. [Dictys.4.22]

Aesyetes had a son, Alcathous. [Home.Il.13.424]

3 Others

In 1244 BC, Laomedon died, and his son Priam succeeded him as king of Wilusa (Troy). [Dictys.4.22, Home.20.220, Hyginus.89]

Aesyetes, together with his brothers, expelled Priam from Ilium. [Estimated from wiki: Milawata letter]

Aesyetes fought against Priam, who was supported by the Hittites, but was killed in battle. [Estimated from Strabo.13.1.34 and Home.Il.2.786]
