Dolion was born in Thessaly in 1420 BC.

In 1390 BC, Dolion was chased by Aeolis and moved from Thessaly to near Lake Ascania in the northwest of the Anatolia Peninsula. [FGrH.Nr70.F61, Strabo.12.4.8, Strabo.14.5.29]

Dolion is thought to be the ancestor of the Doliones who later lived around Cyzicus.
