1 Origin

Actis (or Auges, Atlas) was born in Cyrbe, Rhodes, in 1445 BC. [Diod.5.57.8]

Actis' father was Erysichthon. [FGrH.4.122]

Actis' mother was Rhodos, daughter of Halia. [Diod.5.56.5]

Actis was one of the Heliadae of Rhodes. [Diod.5.56.5, Nonnus.14.36]

Actis, together with his brothers, expelled Telchines from Rhodes in 1425 BC. [Diod.5.56.1, Nonnus.14.36]

In 1415 BC, Actis emigrated from Rhodes to Egypt after a dispute arose among the Heliadae. [Diod.5.57.2]

Actis founded Heliopolis in Egypt. [Diod.5.57.2]

Actis imparted celestial knowledge to Maceris, also called Egyptian Heracles or Phoenician Heracles, who lived in Canopus. [Cleme.Str.1.15, Tzetzes.12.130]

In the early 6th century BC, when Solon of Athens visited Egypt, the priest Psenophis in Heliopolis is thought to be a descendant of Actis. Psenophis told Solon the lost legend of Atlantis. [Plut.Solon.26]

The legend of Atlantis is thought to have been acquired by Maceris during his voyage through the Mediterranean and passed on to Actis.
