Hyperes' father was Melas, son of Phrixus.

Hyperes' mother was Eurycleia, daughter of Athamas.

Hyperes gave his name to the Hypereia spring in the center of Pherae in Thessaly.

Pherae was located about 26 km north-northwest of Halus, which was founded by Hyperes' grandfather Athamas.
