Aegestus (or Acestes) was born in Sicily in 1280 BC.

When King Laomedon of Troy died in 1244 BC, Aegestus was invited by the descendants of Assaracus, son of Tros, to emigrate to Troad. [Antiq.1.52.3, Lycoph.Cassa.1115, TzeAdLyco.952, SerCVAene.1.550]

Aegestus was the grandson of Phaenodamas (or Hippotes), who competed with Laomedon for the throne.

Aegestus expelled Priam (or Podarces) from Ilium and became king of Wilusa (Troy).

However, Aegestus was driven out of Ilium by Priam, who was supported by the Hittites, and returned to Sicily.
