1 Origin

Amphitryon was born in Tiryns, Argolis, in 1305 BC.

Amphitryon's father was Alcaeus, son of Perseus. [Apo.2.4.5]

Amphitryon's mother was Hipponome, daughter of Menoeceus. [Apo.2.4.5]

Amphitryon married Laonome, daughter of Guneus. [Apo.2.4.5 and Paus.8.14.9]

Amphitryon and Laonome had a son, Iphicles. [Apo.2.4.5 and Paus.8.14.9]

Amphitryon married Alcmena, daughter of Electryon. [Apo.2.4.8, Herod.2.145]

Amphitryon and Alcmena had a son, Heracles. [Herod.6.53, Paus.5.8.3, Apo.2.4.5]

Amphitryon and Alcmena had a daughter, Laonome. [Tze.2.610]

In 1278 BC, Amphitryon moved from Tiryns to Thebes, invited by Sparti. [Pind.Py.9.80]

Probably, Amphitryon was invited by his grandfather Menoeceus, who lived in Thebes.

In 1277 BC, Amphitryon made an expedition to the land of the Teleboans. [Apo.2.4.7, Paus.1.37.6, Pind.Ne.10.10, Strabo.10.2.14]

It is believed that the expedition was initiated by Amphitryon's uncle Helius.

During this expedition, Helius colonized the Echinades islands. [Apo.2.4.5, Apo.2.4.7]

Amphitryon's uncle Electryon and his sons also participated in this expedition and died in battle. [Apo.2.4.6]

Amphitryon took his children Alcmena and Licymnius to Thebes. [Apo.2.4.8]

Amphitryon donated the tripod he had obtained from Teleboans to the temple in Thebes. [Herod.5.59]

In 1265 BC, Amphitryon appointed Heracles as a priest for a one-year term in the temple of Apollo Ismenias. [Paus.9.10.4]

In 1258 BC, Amphitryon fought and defeated Chalcodon of Chalcis in Euboea, who had invaded Boeotia. [Paus.9.19.3]

In 1256 BC, Amphitryon was killed in battle against Erginus of Orchomenus. [Apo.2.4.11]

Amphitryon was buried next to the tomb of the children of Heracles in Thebes. [Paus.1.41.1]
