Video Recording and Posting of Design Meetings
The meetings are generally publicly recorded and posted to YouTube and sometimes to Facebook, etc.. This is for educational, note taking, transparency, curriculum development, activity design, etc. purposes. Parts of the video may be used for creating lessons online, promotion, gathering feedback, creating examples of activities, etc. For example.
Educational - people can see how the design teams work.
Note Taking - we can go back and transcribe materiel if needed.
Catch Up - Sometimes people miss meetings so they can go back and watch them.
Promotional - we share the video to invite others to join us. It helps spread the word about our training project. We hope others will join us. We hope the recording motivate and inspire others to take part in supporting this project.
Transparency and Openness - creates transparency of the design process
Activity Design - We do design and test activities/exercises/Try Its. These are recorded and we turn those into sample lessons.
Example: with the blocks to empathy. One team had a person share a story, the others then gave a response 'block' to empathy, then we all gave an empathic response. (See *05: BLOCK WITH REFLECT) . Each block then became a separate video clip.
Example: When we do individual activities and exercise like MIRRORING FEELINGS, we can use video to illustrate that exercise.
Etc.
Discretion
Please note, the intention of the meetings is to design a training and not addressing deep therapeutic or personal issues. We may form other more personally oriented meetings and groups with that intention and they would not be recorded.. Perhaps some private empathy buddy calls, etc,
Do track what you say and do not share information in the team meetings that you do not want to have publicly available.
Feedback on this Activity
The videos are not highly view.. maybe 10 to 20 views on YouTube. Some videos on Facebook have had up to 200 views.
Celebrations
Empathy thrives on openness and transparency. When we can openly, honestly and authentically share our feelings we help build and foster a culture of empathy. We want to build a culture of empathy where everyone can openly share their feelings and be heard without judgment, fear, retribution, etc.
Concerns
Some people have concerns about the recording
may inhibit freely expressing oneself because of self-consciousness or others seeing it.
I Wish….we would discuss in our next group that we acknowledge and honor the usual agreements in this type of group sharing session of: honoring confidentiality and not speak about others without their permission or presence.
