What does a vision of a culture of empathy look like to you?
Our core vision for the empathy training is to build a culture of empathy.
We would like to paint the picture of what that vision would be like.
On Arrival Writing Question: COE: VISION: What does the vision of a culture of empathy mean to you?
Empathy Team 1: Meeting 10: Arrival Question: Vision Culture of Empathy
It’s an overall vision of what a culture or society based on empathy looks like. It’s based on mutual presence, inclusion, power with, listening, constructive dialogue, empathic connection, collaborative and creative action for the well being of all. It is the vision of what are we moving towards. Being present. Awareness of the well being of a whole.
In a very short version, when we set the empathy circle intention, it’s to build a culture of empathy: Each person to be able to authentically express themselves and for each person to be heard to their satisfaction
Seeing each person, as well as, an awareness of the whole. Measuring the empathy in the whole. For example how do we increase the level of empathy in our team? Or in a family. A community, country etc. so not just each individual being more empathic and developing skills to speak and listen more empathically, also how to increase the level of empathy in the whole group. How might we raise the level of empathy in the team would be a good question to work on.
To me vision of a culture of empathy means that everyone respects one another disregarding discriminatory elements like race, gender, class, color, nationality etc and that every human has empathy towards one another, be seen and heard.
It means deciding on a list of core values that describe empathy and act on them.
If each of us does the challenging -- and worthwhile -- work of surrendering our self-centeredness and receiving the gift of other-centeredness, we will delight in serving by listening.
We will respect the inherent dignity of each person.
We will be empowered to look for solutions to problems based not on “What’s in it for me?” but rather “What’s in it for us?”
I’m not sure I have a vision of a culture of empathy yet, I’m still exploring what it means to live with empathy in my life. I imagine a culture of empathy creating a world where everyone matters regardless of their status or opinions.
It means everything to me. In every situation I want to emphasize empathy. The content of my life’s work is about people being with people in an empathic way. A world in peace and harmony. Maybe I am a dreamer, but I know I am not the only one.
It looks like an oasis in a world that seems to lose part of its humanity. I think that this vision will answer to many people’s need for deeper connection and warmer relationships with others. We all need it; especially today after reading about compassion on chapter 4 of the book we use in our meetings, I felt how much better people could communicate and connect with each other if they had ever heard and practise genuine empathy and compassion in their life. The vision of a culture of empathy is the fresh water in the thirsty heart of multiple people all around the world.
Empathy is meaningful and very serious. People feel a gap inside them. Would be happy to contribute and make the world better. Being the best means you are authentic.
A culture of empathy at a working level would mean everyone comes to the group prepared to seek understanding and avoid our tribal natures to differentiate ourselves based on some instinctual, quick, assessments by which we group people -- finding common ground in our humanity.
Not sure it’s natural.. Tribalism may be natural.
