Create a design brief of the Empathy Training
Our task is to design, create and test an online multimedia empathy training curriculum. We are using the Listening Well book as a prototype course.
The basic idea is that a learning group of 2 to 6 participants forms that wants to take the training. They schedule weekly meetings for 2 hours a week. Before the meetings they read a book chapter. They come together and use empathic listening to discuss the contents of the chapter. Each chapter of the book deepens the understanding and skills of doing empathic listening as well as each meeting is practicing. The book has 16 chapters, so there are initially 16 meetings.

[Why Need] Why is there a need for this course?
[What to improve] What we need to improve and how we can improve it?
[What not do] What we are never going to do again?
[Contextualize] How do you contextualize it?
[Empathy Exemplar] Who are the exemplary performers of empathy (these performers are proficient with empathy)? they need to demonstrate it and talk through what they are doing.
[Coaches] How do you find coaches?
The practice component needs to be supplemented by coaching and feedback.
For example, the facilitator of the group, who should be proficient with empathy, could be the coach and provide feedback to others in the group. Need to identify how you find coaches.
[Subject Experts] How are you finding Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for developing the course?
[Who Audience] Who is the audience for the course in year 1, year 2, and so on?
[Motivations] Why would people be motivated to take this course?
[How Take Training] How will people take the training?
[Certification] Are we offering a certificate at the end?

BEGINNING OF BRIEF
Empathy Circle Learning Format
We use the empathy circle as the foundational practice that we will continuously and iteratively redesign., improve, and deepen. The empathy circle is based on mutual empathic listening.
The initial prototype is that we will design a curriculum that will be available on the internet. Participants can form their own peer to peer learning teams of 2 to 6 participants and go through the training together. They can also go through it with a facilitator
The curriculum (MOOC) will step by step deepen skills and build a culture of empathy.
Open Source
Is it possible to create an open source training? A
format that people use and build on.
Length of Workshops
We would want a series of options for participants wanting to take part in a training. Everything from an initial 1 or 2 hour introductory training to a 1 year training plus.
1 hour Introductory
2 hour Introductory
4 Week (2 hour weekly)
8 Week (2 hour weekly)
16 Week (2 hour weekly)
1 year. (2 hour weekly)
etc.
