Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski, and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits – where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.
My colleague Josie Luetke gave an excellent interview about why the upcoming Life Chain demonstration is so important to attend. Did you know this event has saved lives? Make sure you set aside Sunday, Oct. 5, to attend the location nearest you.
Pro-Life Alberta has launched a powerful new campaign to demand protections for children born alive after failed abortions in Alberta. In 2024 alone, at least 28 babies were born alive after failed abortions in Alberta hospitals. Make sure you check out what this group is doing.
Did you know Canadian doctors can make big money from killing the sick and elderly via MAiD? I didn’t either. A BC payment schedule shows doctors bill much more than the public fee — a single MAiD death can net physicians $1,300, and total costs per case approach $2,600. MAiD was sold to Canadians as compassionate. But the mask is now coming off. We now know what MAiD really means: Medical Assassination = income for Doctors.
My colleague Jack Fonseca has made some powerful comments about children’s author Robert Munsch and his plan to end his life by MAiD. Yes, this man, and all who have contemplated suicide, are in need of prayer.
There are some excellent “good news” stories this week. In one of them, my daughter Perina writes about her experience using abortion victim photography to defend life on the streets of Toronto during a school break. “Yes, I recognize that these pictures of aborted babies are extremely difficult to look at,” writes Perina. “I do not want to look at them either. However, if we don’t show the truth about abortion, no one will ever be moved to oppose it.” Make sure you check out her piece.
The Canadian pro-life group Choice42 has released a new video—the fourth in its “Exposed” series—that highlights the abortion pill. The film raises the question: When it comes to the abortion pill, who is the abortionist? The video is based on a true story. While animated, it is still difficult to watch.
Finally, I was practically shocked this week to see our Canadian Senate admit in the first reading of a new bill that preborn children deserve one kind of protection. But don’t rejoice too quickly. Read my reflection to find out why.

“Why are pro-life activists like me willing to go to the streets to make the case for life? The answer is simple: abortion will not end, there will not be laws enacted that recognize and protect the pre-born as full members of the human family, until the public cries out for this to happen.”

Maureen, the Senate has just introduced Bill S-234, a national framework on fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. The bill recognizes that alcohol consumption during pregnancy can cause lasting harm to babies in the womb, impacting their brains, bodies, and future quality of life.
It's great to see the upper house of Parliament officially acknowledge that preborn children deserve protection from harm.
And yet, in this very same country, those same children can be poisoned, dismembered, or delivered dead through abortion right up until birth—with full legal sanction.
Canada is worried about protecting preborn children from alcohol, but not from abortion.
This is cognitive dissonance at a whole new level. It exposes the absurdity of our laws: a society that claims to care about babies’ health while simultaneously denying their very right to life.
If the government truly wants to protect children from harm in the womb, it must start with the most basic protection: the right to life.
I’m glad to see the Senate taking this step toward protecting the lives of preborn children. It’s a very small step, but it’s in the right direction.
Be bold and daring for life!
