Dear Maureen, I’m Pete Baklinski and this is your Canadian Pro-Life News Bits where I let you know what’s happening on our country’s pro-life and pro-family front.
The Manitoba NPD government is introducing legislation that creates a buffer zone around centres that kill preborn children by abortion and that offers special protection to those who provide pregnant mothers with drugs to kill their preborn babies. CLC predicted last year that with the election of a socialist government, it was only a matter of time before such legislation was introduced. This legislation must be fought tooth and nail.
My colleague Josie Luetke has written about her chance confrontation with Manitoba MLA Nahanni Fontaine, the mover behind the province's bubble zone bill, at the UN's recent Status of Women meeting in New York. It was a charged encounter in which Josie exposed Fontaine's extremism. Bravo Josie!
My colleague Jack Fonseca has released an important video that links climate change alarmism to population control via contraception and abortion. This video, consisting of an interview with Canadian mechanical engineer Tom Harris, the executive director of the International Climate Science Coalition, is crucial as the fate of nations becomes more and more determined by how their governments respond to the so-called climate crisis.
Georges Buscemi, president of our sister organization Campagne Québec-Vie, has penned an important piece marking “International Women’s Day” in which he argues how pro-life Christians are the real champions of women today. When governments, judges, and mainstream media have forgotten what a woman is, even celebrating males who say they’re female, it’s Christianity which has, as Georges writes, “elevate[d] women to a height that no other ancient culture could have imagined.”
A spokeswoman from the do-it-yourself chemical abortion mill that opened up in Calgary, Alberta, candidly admitted to the Western Standard that babies terminated at home by the abortion pill are simply flushed down the toilet like ordinary human waste. Women who use this method are often traumatized when they see and sometimes hold their tiny baby who has an identifiable head, torso, arms and legs. This is the horrifying reality of chemical abortions that most women don’t know about until it’s too late. If you have not done so yet, please sign our petition to ban chemical abortion in Canada.
Our country’s top court came into disrepute when, in a ruling regarding a woman who claimed she was r*ped, Justice Sheilah Martin, marching to the drumbeat of the woke left, took issue with the word “woman,” stating that the choice of the term was “unfortunate and engendered confusion.” As Brian Lilley wrote in the Toronto Sun, the only one confused is Justice Martin. “It’s one thing for an academic to dabble in this nonsense but for a sitting judge of the highest court in the land to do so is infuriating. Martin is responsible for the Supreme Court being mocked, its reputation damaged by this,” he wrote. Well said!

Maureen, mixing chemical abortion with telemedicine is a recipe for disaster, certainly for the preborn baby but potentially for the mother as well.
Chemical abortion, branded as Mifegymiso in Canada, lists adverse reactions as “persistent or heavy vaginal bleeding” that can require "treatment with intravenous fluids or blood transfusion.” Side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Infectious complications can include “sometimes fatal sepsis.”
Two Canadian mothers have already died from chemical abortion.
Numerous women who have used this method have said it was the most painful experience of their lives. Some thought they were dying. Numerous women who have experienced a chemical abortion have said they were unprepared for the pain and bleeding as well as the shock of seeing the visible tiny human being in embryonic form they had expelled.
A spokeswoman for Calgary’s new Medical Abortion Clinic which offers chemical abortions via telemedicine — where women can simply make a call to have abortion pills mailed to their home — candidly admitted that babies terminated at home via the abortion pill are simply flushed down the toilet like ordinary human waste.
“Most just flush it down the toilet,” she told the Western Standard.
The abortion pill turns a home into an abortion centre. It turns a home, which should be a place of life and love, into a place of death and rejection, a murder scene for the smallest of victims–the preborn child.
Chemical abortion recklessly puts women’s lives on the line. In the first place, pregnant women calling in for the abortion pill self-determine the gestational age of their baby. Complications can arise if she uses chemical abortion past the 9 weeks cut-off date set by Health Canada. An additional complication arises if the woman calling in for a chemical abortion has an undetected ectopic pregnancy. This can only be discovered through ultrasound. Left undetected and without medical intervention, it can be fatal for her.
Every abortion harms women on so many levels, including physically, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually. An additional physiological toll coming from a self-administered chemical abortion is that the woman bears the full responsibility for killing her baby by her own hand. She will have no one but herself to share the burden of guilt with. Abortion is already known to be a driver of mental health issues. Women who have undergone an abortion experience an 81 percent increased risk of mental health problems and a staggering 155 percent greater risk of suicide. Chemical abortion could certainly compound this.
This product certainly has nothing to do with women’s health or well-being. It must be banned in Canada.
